1. TYPE OF PRODUCT CHOSEN

In general, the product that we choose is a bag. A bag is a kind of soft container. It can hold or
carry things. It may be made from cloth, leather, plastic, or paper. Bags come in different shapes
and sizes depending on how they will be used. In specific, the product that we choose is a luggage
bag. Basically, luggage consists of bags, cases, and containers which hold a traveler’s articles while
the traveler is in transit.

We choose the luggage because we noticed that luggage in Malaysia is so outdated compare to
another country. We named our product as Smart Luggage. Other than carry things, it will help
human in many aspects. In our product, we provide the USB plug to charges the phone, power
bank, laptop and many more electronic. Next, in our luggage it consist of a compartments such as
laptop suit case and shelf to help things in our luggage keep tidy. This luggage will help the
customer an ease to find their clothes and at the some time to make their luggage look neat. Then,
our luggage also provide fingerprint scanner which is a prevention from strangers to easily open
our luggage and steals our stuffs. These innovations help the users in many aspects. Our design
will help traveler travel without worry.
2. INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, people always go travel whether in country or overseas. The thing that very
important during travel is luggage. Luggage is a must thing for traveler to save their belonging for
example clothes, toiletries, and skincare or cosmetics. In fact, once loaded into the hold, you
probably don’t give much of a though for your journey to your destination. However, the protection
and security offers you and your belongings are priceless and ensuring your luggage is one of the
highest quality affordable. It is also provide peace of mind and ensures you will arrive with
everything that you left with.

Our luggage will provide the security protection such as fingerprint and tracking
mechanism so that the luggage will only can be open by the owner. We also make a slot for USB
and laptop case. They can charge their phone at the luggage which will make it easier for traveler.
For laptop case it is a very suitable for people who travel but need to work at the same time. The
protection of laptop case is very good because we use hard and good quality for the luggage
material. Our luggage equipped with two big wheels at the bottom which very suitable to balance
the luggage.

Inside our luggage, we put shelf which is very ideal for business travelers or travelers that
travel on a short trips. The travelers will not waste their time to unpack and repack their luggage
every time they are on the move again and no need to spend looking for a specific item under a
pile of folded clothes. The shelving system will solve all the problem for travelers which make
they save their time and easy to take their clothes from the luggage.
3. CONCEPTUAL DESIGN

i) Defining problem

In order to identify the customer needs, the first phase for Conceptual design which is
benchmarking need to be done. Benchmark is a method that compare our smart luggage with
the another luggage from different company.

Our product is Smart Luggage that has the safest lock for the bag. It can be only access by only
by the owner because it using fingerprint. Compare to the Shelf Pack Urbanlite Redge 3 in 1 that
does not have lock for the bag. It is not safe because everyone can take your stuff in your bag.
Our product is using polycarbonate material. This material is lightweight, scratch resistant, and
can stand up to the rigors of travel.

Product Design Specification (PDS) and benchmarking.

For our product which is Smart Luggage, we use Polycarbonate material. This is because
Polycarbonate material is lightweight and our luggage is only 3kg weight. Our luggage provided
fingerprint scanner to unlock and lock the luggage. It can prevent our stuff from get steal. Next,
in our luggage also contain shelves, pockets to keep the laptop with high security and also
toiletries. It can keep our stuff to keep tidy and it will much easier to find our stuffs.
Furthermore, we also provide GPS and USB. GPS can help us to track our luggage wherever
they are, so we do not have to worry leaving the luggage when we go to the toilet or any place
that it is hard to bring the luggage. USB can help us to charger our phone, laptop or any
electronic gadgets. Our luggage also using axle-less, large diameter rubber and patented wheel
which will make the customer feel so comfortable when pull their luggage. This wheel design also
make the center of the gravity closer to gravity axis so the luggage will have ideal weight distribution
when pull the luggage.
ii) Gathering information
The information that being use in this project is by the internet. From the internet
we know what is the material that being used to produce a luggage and how it

Based on the morphological chart, we chose the best option with the suitable criteria:-

Body shape We choose option 1, because it have higher aesthetic value, greater volume
and easy to design which mean save the production cost

Material of We choose polycarbonate material because it is light and it high durability

Outer Body compare to others
Luggage We choose option 3, because it is a wide angle handle and long which is
handle comfortable to the users when pulling the luggage
Power source We choose option 2, an electric module with power bank which is can supply
power to the USB port and the security system ( Fingerprint scanner and GPS
tracker )
Handle We choose option 2, an elastic and comfortable handle to make sure our user’s
hands feel comfortable when lift the luggage
Shelf We choose option 2, it is more easy for users to set the shelf, and it will make
the customer easier to pack the clothes into the shelf

Laptop We choose option 1, it is have high security with the fingerprint scanner while
suitcase this compartments save many spaces for the user. The outer body is durable
and make sure the laptop always safe from any shock from outside.
Wheel We choose option1, because it is an axle-less, lightweight and have large
diameter. This wheel design will support the load closer to its center of gravity,
so this bag balances better and feels significantly lighter when user pull it.

Safety We choose option1, because it is safest security and friendly user with the
customer. Customers do not need to enter the password every time when want
to open the luggage.
 Based on the Pugh chart that have done, there is a few design of luggage that can be
compare with our design and the highest criteria is 7 which is design 5. Design 5 have been chosen
because of the criteria for example stability, durability and functionality is highest compare to
datum.

The most important criteria is functionality. It is because if the product have more than one
function it is more useful and valuable to customer. That is why design 5 has the most value
compare to others. The simplicity of the design is all about the easiness to draw design of the
product. The durability of the product is also taken into count. Design 5 have the most durable
because of the material that used on it. Easy to carry is also being consider because it can bring
everything with the least weight. For example have wheels so that we just pull the luggage.
4. INNOVATION IN DESIGN

Product Modification

The product we produce is an innovation of luggage bag. The objective of innovation

made is to overcome the problems faced by the customers. The problems which are the
clothes does not in neat and accordingly packed up, the customers also faced problems
to unpack the clothes or things in the luggage, they have to carry a power bank to travel,
the luggage have no technology in case it have lost from customers. Basically for people
nowadays, everyone brings their laptop, but they have to carry another bag for the laptop.
Then one of the problem is usually luggage have high potential to fall down if it does not
being hold and possibly to damage the outer of luggage and the things inside the luggage.

As the conceptual design, we have listed the parts of our products to show the
innovation created. First part is the luggage have built-in shelf for customers easy to pack
and unpack their clothes. The shelf basically have 3 levels which is enough for the
customers’ clothes. The mechanism of the shelf is it can be fold to close the luggage and
to straight up the shelf, the customer just have to pull it up as the framework of the shelf
is made of stainless steel that can be sliding down into one rod. As we know, the material
of the framework is not that durable, but, to bear the weight of clothes, stainless steel is
already adequate. Second, the luggage have ‘power bank’ which is it act as a power
source for the customer can charge their gadgets such as phone, tablets and others. The
addition of power source into the luggage will attract the customer to buy our product
which is can reduce their problems during travels. Next, the tracking mechanism added
into this luggage turn this product into a smart luggage which is it have GPS for customers
can track back the position of their luggage. Then, this product also have part for the
customer can keep their laptop which is the part is located at in front of the luggage and
the material is hard case. Definitely, the material used can absorb the vibration and impact
to protect the laptop. Finally, the innovation we made to this product performance when
the customer pull the bag. The wheels design is have large diameter and axle-less which
make the centre of gravity of the load is closer of the centre of the wheels. So, the weight
distribution is equal and the users will feel significantly lighter than usual when they pull
it. The objective of this innovation is to reduce or possibly to prevent the luggage from fall
down without being hold. This also can increase the life span of the luggage to perfectly
function.
 The parts of our product have similarity as the other luggage due to lack of ideas and
they have their own advantages that cannot be innovate. The parts which are the pockets
inside the luggage, the material of the luggage and wheels, and the mechanism of the
wheels which can rotating in 360 degree.
