    Safety / Operations Meeting


    April 18, 2019

    ATTENDEES:
    Dwayne Schielke, Marlin Mock, Layne Christensen, Marty Broderson, Monty Baynham,, Kurt Gertzen, Shelley Michie

    Health & Safety (Marlin):

    Safety Moment (presented by Kurt):

    • Avoiding Heat Stress


    Copy of presentation and video on f-drive (Monthly Ops_Meetings-April).

    Guidelines to follow for warm weather months:


    o Understand what heat stress is and understand symptoms – it is a signal that says the body is having difficulty
    maintaining its narrow temperature range Heart pumps faster, blood is diverted from internal organs to the
    skin, breathing rate increases, sweating increases, all in an attempt to transfer more heat to the outside air
    and cool the skin by evaporation of sweat. If the body can’t keep up then the person suffers effects ranging
    from heat cramps to heat exhaustion, and finally to heat stroke.
    o Symptoms of heat exhaustion – include headaches, dizziness, lightheadness or fainting; weakness and moist
    skin; mood changes such as irritability or confusion; upset stomach or vomiting.
    o Symptoms of heat stroke – include dry, hot skin with no sweating; mental confusion or loss of consciousness;
    seizures or convulsions. Seek medical assistance immediately.
    o Dry clothes and skin do not mean that you are not sweating – in dry climates, you might not feel wet or sticky,
    but are you are still sweating. On a very warm day, you can lose as much as two liters of fluid.
    o Beat the heat – drink water or Gatorade frequently and moderately, avoid direct sunlight or other heat sources,
    tackle more strenuous jobs during cooler morning hours, utilizing the ventilation or fans in enclosed areas, rest
    frequently.
    o Be prepared to act – in the event you recognize these symptoms in yourself or co-worker, immediately notify
    your supervisor and contact emergency professions. While waiting, move person to shaded area, loosen or
    remove heavy clothing, provide small sips of cool drinking water, fan and mist the person with water.

    • April “Safety Moment” will be presented by Marlin.

    • Safety Concerns:
    o No concerns.

    Regulatory & Operations (Marlin):

    • Enchant Incident:
    o Reviewed recent incident and the SDS sheet for Scavenger used.
    o The release on the heater caused a toxic vapor that was inhaled by Mark.
    o Mark should have donned PPE when he re-entered the building.
    o Pointed out the numerous hazards and symbols associated to the product (Scavenger). Marlin will
    send out the latest WHMIS symbols.

    • Bypass of Equipment Safeguards Practice:
    o Reviewed the Practice and Bypass form
    o Jumpbush operators still to review the Practice.
    o Marlin will sign off each operator’s competency form.

    • Car Seal Procedure:


    o Reviewed the Practice.
    o Marlin will set up area specific Practice.
    o Marlin will sign off each operator’s competency form.

    • Vegetation Control Quotes:


    o Reviewed 2019 quotes and 2018 costs per area.
    o Assigned vendors for 2019.
    o Reclamation leases will not be sprayed. Majorville operated leases will not be sprayed.

    • Operator Safety Courses:


    o Reviewed operator courses and identified course expiries
    o H2S and First Aid must be kept up-to-date.
    o Lethbridge offers H2S and First Aid courses.

    Miscellaneous Items:
    • Pressure Truck for Batching – discussed vendors for each area and their costs. Dwayne stressed the
    importance of communicating between the areas and possible cost-savings of coordinating same vendor and
    time of testing.
    o Tank 77 - $140/hr; Blainco - $150/hr; Dundas-$127.30/hr.
    • Watchdog Presentation – Dwayne reviewed the presentation (on f-drive).
    • D13 Wellsite Inspections – Low Risk: 56 wells Medium Risk; Medium Risk: 6 wells
    • Noralta – Rob will be switching internet services from Noralta to Roger’s Hub over the next few weeks.
    • Ident Pipeline Stickers and Out-of-Service Stickers – Shelley will order
