Potential Career

A hotel manager or a hotelier is a manager who leads employees in everyday challenges.

This may include: having the proper food and beverages, housekeeping, budget planning and

keeping the hotel financially stable. Hotel managers must always ensure the satisfaction of their

guests and staff. In order to gain such a position, two to five years of management skills and a

degree in hospitality or hotel management are required. The hotel industry is not for everyone.

Being in hotel management is precise in its work, but it is fulfilling based on its salary, benefits,

and skill requirements.

People acquiring a position in hotel management inquirer the salary which happens to be

above average. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook a manager in the highest 10

percent pay can earn up to $98,370; at the lowest 10 percent they earn pay less than or around

$28,930 (Bureau of Labor Statistics). It can take up to 20 years to earn a high salary (Rose). The

states that offer the highest salary are New York, California, and Florida. In May 2017, the

median salary was $51,800 per year (Bureau of Labor Statistics). The higher paying jobs are paid

more because they are full time employees and have higher education and more experience.

Managers that gain higher salaries have a Bachelor of Science in business, Bachelor of Art in

Hotel Management, or Bachelor of Art in Business Management. The world's number one

college to employ for hotel management happens to be in Texas, the Conrad N. Hilton College at

the University of Houston. Hilton provides guidance to students interested in the hotel industry

to find the path suited for them. Besides education, hoteliers with more experience get paid

generously. This may be because hotels are open around the clock, hotel managers work

evenings, weekends, and holidays. In the United States, a bonus is received based on years of

experience to hoteliers. If they have worked there for three to nine years a manager’s bonus on

average can be up to $3,693, with 20 or more years up to $9,836 bonus. To receive high

compensation hotel managers must always be able to be reached. The compensation for hoteliers

is generally fair from the starting and ending pay.

Hotel Managers receive benefits through many items such as medical, dental and vision

coverage, which may cover their family as well. Term life and accidental death and

dismemberment insurance is paid if the death was an accident. If an injury or illness occurs, the

hotel manager is covered as well with short and long- term disability income depending on their

needs. Hoteliers will receive paid time off when they are sick, celebrating a holiday, or on

vacation time. The hotel will provide managers with a 401k retirement plan after their time

working there (Indeed). The most beneficial elements in the hotel management industry is that a

manager will travel to make the hotel successful. This includes wine and food tasting to bring in

new ideas for the company. Management is a fulltime job, which means they must always be at

the hotel, so hoteliers get to live at the hotel. If hotel managers happen to have a family, they

stay there as well. This, also, may depend on how big the hotel is and the company's location.

These benefits are gratifying for the relief of protection that they ensure in any given emergency

for hotel managers.

The fascinating hotel management business has significant elements of skill

requirements. Leadership skills is one of the most required skills for a hotel manager. A hotelier

must have a positive relationship with their staff to ensure productivity. Motivating employees is

important to keep a healthy environment in the work place. Managers must resolve any conflicts,

complaints, and criticisms that guests or employees may have. Most complaints and criticisms

can be impolite and disrespectful, a hotelier should respond in a calm and established manner.

Hotel managers will use business skills to address and manage the budget to make the hotel

successful. As a successful hotel, hotel managers must keep the loyalty of their workers.

Business skills include making schedules, keeping track of those schedules, and making sure

employees receive the proper salary. This task will be difficult in larger employed hotels as well

as communication. The way a manager communicates with different people introduces

interpersonal skills. Hoteliers must keep the hotel staff in control and satisfied, as well as guests

from different backgrounds. Interpersonal skills involve understanding with people from a

different country. All skills are needed for a hotel manager to be able to run a hotel.

After reviewing the benefits, salary and skill requirements for hotel management it shows

to be a unique job, as it is a constant attention occupation. The hotel management is about

satisfaction and keeping up with the satisfaction from guests while trying new approaches on

making the hotel exceed. The job is beneficial in the salary. In larger hotels managers will be

paid a great amount of money. If there happens to be an illness or injury, hotel managers will still

be covered. Hotel management is a prime career, needing the fullest consideration; it is an

adventure worth experiencing.
