April 25th

2nd Grade:

Be concise! I don’t think you will get thru your lesson plans if there is extra talking and directions
between things. They don’t really need to know what is coming next, or what they are doing for
the day! They will just follow you in the moment

-Good job picking out students who were being good role models/examples

Adding “re” into “Au Clair” - Teacher: don’t do the hand signs but rather point to melody on the
board. In fact, I would maybe just have them sing the “re” today and do hand signs next time.
-slow down tempo when singing

When adding instrument bordun make sure the singing pitch matches the instrument pitch (try
introducing the song and first singing on the starting pitch you need)

Is the venn diagram necessary? Do you reference it during your movement activity on high vs.
low instruments

1st grade:

I think prepping the workbook page before having them do it themselves was helpful!

Minimize words: You are losing a lot of students’ focus with lots of talking between each round
of the game

When having students go back to their spot, give a pause between stop of activity and make
sure they are listening to your directions (Ex: sing as you go back to your spot)

Avoid making everything into a question for students to answer. Occasionally, you can just tell
them answer. “If you don’t have room, step out”

Good job prepping before opening the book with Martin’s class (make sure all students are
following directions- most were 95%)

A way to transition to circle: sing song or walk the rhythm. Give them a job so they won’t have
time to talk/misbehave

Goal for tomorrow: script out concise questions for each activity. Try not to use other
words except your scripted phrases/questions.
