Artifact: Engaged Learning Project
The artifact, Engaged Learning Project uses technology to influence instruction. The
Engaged Learning Project was created in 21st Century Teaching & Learning, ITEC 7400. The
artifact is based on a project for 2nd grade ELA, SS, and Math called “Make a Difference: Civic
Responsibility. The artifact was created to keep a focus on making a difference in which students
of the elementary school are visualized to contribute socially to society. Students will ultimately
learn to engage actively with the organizations to offer strategic solutions or helping mankind
thereby making a difference. My individual contribution is to motivate students enough in
forming a partnership with the organizations to work in assimilation thereby obliging the
community.
The Engaged Learning Project allowed me to model and facilitate the use of digital tools
and resources to engage students in authentic learning experiences. Digital tools were used
throughout the facilitated instruction and offered as product options for the students. The task
included using digital tools for research and presenting their findings to the community at the
showcase. Some of the digital tools used include Sway, Flipgrid, PowerPoint, Animoto, and
Seesaw. Research real-world problems and solutions to promote civil responsibility increased
critical thinking, enrichment, and helped foster an authentic learning enviroment.
I’ve learned the importance of making sure a project is approapriately designed for the grade
level and content. In addition, there is a level of detail needed to create a Project-Based Learning
(PBL) from start to finish based on real-wrold issues applicable to 2nd graders. Furthermore, by
making use of the latest technology, students will learn to conquer real-world problems and thus
they will endeavor to find effective solutions for it. The quality of artifact can be further
improved by exploring new means of technology that can produce efficacy in the results. In the
future, I would also allow students the opportunity to add to the list of real-world issues to
research.
This artifact impacts student learning because it allows students to present their projects to
the surrounding community/stakeholders. By doing so, it will help to promote the use of
technology to solve real-world problems. The community will have the chance to review and
reflect on the projects providing feedback. The impact can be assessed based on the observations
and critques at the community showcase. Improvement is assured on a school level where
students will participate actively to address complex issues of the community. Awareness is
generated among all and the faculty will further feel proud of the efforts made by the
students. Further improvements can be made by encouraging students to come forward and
speak confidently on the identified problems.
