Haiyan: A Monstrous Disaster of The Century
On the 8th day of November in 2013, Typhoon Haiyan made land fall in the
Philippines. It laid waste to the Visayas group of islands especially in Leyte. Typhoon Haiyan
was the most powerful storm in 2013 and one of the most powerful of all time.
In the video entitled the "Typhoon Haiyan Eye of the Storm" it is shown in there that how
this typhoon devastated the entire Philippines especially in the Visayas where the eye of the
storm hit. The scene that caught me most was when I saw on the video that the coconut
trees got "bald" due to the strong winds brought by Typhoon Haiyan. I cannot imagine when
that kind of wind will hit me and I cannot definitely survived and I guess that I will die by that.
The strong winds brought by Haiyan have effect also on the infrastructure were many
houses were blown away into pieces and got junk. The typhoon also got a large devastating
effect on the agriculture and the economy, other businessman proclaims inflation and others,
prize freeze. Many were not able to secure their stores and causes looting.
There are more than 14 million people affected by the Super Typhoon Haiyan. As
we can see on the video that even the producer of it is a foreigner which means that even
the other country is looking for us and their concerns are definitely in us. Other countries
have also helped us by giving us financial supports, relief goods, and their concerns where
there for us and know we are not left behind.
But still, we are Filipinos and we are known for being happy in the different part of
wheels. Like when a disaster hit us, still we are in the case of being positive but we cannot
say that it is definitely happy but the grief and blue are also there due to the lives were taken
away the typhoon. Many are drowned, bind by the fallen concrete walls, trees and wood,
blood bath, hunger, and etc. have existed in the reign of the Super Typhoon Haiyan.
As a Filipino, this event, the reign of the all time powerful storm “Super Typhoon
Haiyan” or also known as “Super Typhoon Yolanda will mark in our minds and heart forever.
Many died, many tears where shed of to the ground, many is devastated, But we will be still
us, a Filipino who will know how to smile and be positive in times of a disaster. We are
Filipino and we do “Bayanihan”.
