Alternative activity
Make one copy of the photocopiable cards on p. 98 for
each pair of learners in your class and cut them up. There
are two types of card:
– „A“ cards: things to ask for (e.g. the train station)
– „B“ cards: locations (You are …)

Complete half the „location“ cards with the names of


streets / areas that your learners should be familiar with
(e.g. You are in Leipzigerstraße.). Complete the other
cards with places that your learners probably do not
know so well (e.g. You are in Berlin / Hambug / Frankfurt /
Munich.)

Divide the class into two groups, A and B. Place the two
piles of cards face down on a table. One learner from
each group takes a card from the appropriate pile. Learn-
er A asks where something is and Learner B responds
according to whether he / she knows or not, using the
starters on their cards. When everyone has finished, the
cards are shuffled, the learners change groups and repeat
the activity.

Demonstrate with a learner before the class starts the
activity. The B learners should personalise their items
where necessary, e.g. Excuse me, where’s the (Grand)
hotel?
