Tour of the technical areas of the Centre (simulator "Soyuz", "Mir" station, the ISS RS)
No doubt that a lot of us have heard about the International Space Station, that it flies around the
Earth and astronauts live there during their long-term missions to space.
To get to know from the first source how they really live and work onboard the ISS, to learn the
interior of the Station – this will be the most interesting and outstanding experience which can be
gained at the Cosmonaut’s training center.
Before flying to space cosmonauts have to spend hours and hours to practice all the skills acquired
during the theoretical classes. Exactly for this purpose all the simulators of the Space center are
made as full size replicas and practically don’t have any differences from the original ISS. This means
that you will see the real copy of the ISS Russian Segment and will be able to explore not only its
exterior but also the interior! There are all the necessary things which astronauts need in space to live
and work present: the flight control point, a lot of different systems providing the station’s
functioning, a space table for meals, crew quarters and even a space toilet.
• familiarization with the content of scientific tasks and experiments performed by crew members
in space
• presenting separate experiments and works reflecting physics (chemistry) laws and physiology
of a crew member in space
• receiving knowledge and skills during implementation of scientific experiments
• simulating scientific researches and experiments using virtual reality means
• use of medical-biological trainers for simulating separate factors of space flight
• use of medical equipment for studying methods of scientific researches (registering equipment
of physiological functions, anatomic measurements, laboratory researches, optical microscope,
etc.)
SOYUZ-TMA SPACECRAFT COMPLEX SIMULATOR
A simulator can provide simulation of the work of all onboard systems and motion of the spacecraft,
as well as the visual observation of everything what can be seen by astronauts through the windows or
visual sight (the periscope) inside the decent module of the spacecraft. If you order a complex
simulation in the Soyuz spacecraft our leading specialists and GCTC instructors will make a full training
for you on the following space flight activities:
• Simulation of the flight in the real and accelerated time scale (1:1/2:1/4:1/10:1);
• Simulation of the off-nominal situations on all space craft systems in both manual and automatic
modes;
Soyuz spacecraft complex simulators are designed for training of the space crews to piloting of the
spacecraft on all the flight stages:
• Orbital maneuvering;
• Approaching and docking, joint flight with the ISS;
The trainer is intended to provide an overview on Boeing 737-500 and ATR-42-300 crew preparation
and training, as well as Russian Mi-8 МТВ and Mi-8T helicopter crew. A trainee can perform and train:
• Take-off, ascending with visual area and horizon display at day and night times

vehicle, station and during dynamic operations (spacecraft docking, approach, undocking, re-
docking, etc)
CENTRIFUGE
The world's largest centrifuge is CF-18 centrifuge at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training
Centre Centrifuges and centrifuge-based simulators are used for improving cosmonauts’ G-tolerance
capabilities. Improvement of a human body capability for adaptation to g-loads by means of objective
training in a centrifuge is associated with displaying the latent mechanism of blood redistribution which
triggers when blood circulation is distressed and reduce negative effects of acceleration, and predict
the g-load capability of a human-being.
It is also used to develop dynamic simulators of future vehicles and to test aeronautical and space
engineering models.
The complex is intended to present educational, curricular, tutorial classes. It provides interactive
environment with visualization area on panoramic 2.4x6 meter screen, audio and control center. The
complex can demonstrate familiarization, educational and tutorial classes; fulfill quests, quizzes,
academic competitions, etc.
GCTC Planetarium- an amazing virtual journey across galaxy is waiting for you!
Don’t miss the chance to visit the famous space planetarium! No doubt it won’t leave you indifferent!
This is the place where you can find yourself under the starry skies even in daylight and learn how to
recognize different constellations of the Northern and the Southern Hemisphere! This special celestial
navigation complex shows 9000 stars! You stride across the star sky at 400 km above the Earth! This
virtual flight is accompanied by an amazing narration about stars and constellations, asteroids and
comets, the Milky Way. You will hear so many other surprising stories about the life in the Universe.
You will see:
GLOVE BOX
The International Space Station has a permanent glove box. A glovebox is a valuable research tool. Any
work with flames requires precautions, especially on a spacecraft. A closed environment may be
essential to control experiment variables. A glove box helps scientists find more effective methods
for performing an experiment, like growing better crystals. The sealed glovebox keeps flames,
particles, fumes, and spilt liquids away from crew members and out of the cabin air. Scientists can use
the glovebox to make sure small parts of a large experiment work. This helps build more reliable
equipment.
Space Food
Just imagine how difficult it is for astronauts to do simple life things which really seem so easy for us!
They live in the conditions of permanent weightlessness! Cooking and eating in conditions of zero gravity
could be a real problem for a person not trained for this. And even lunch for them is a whole activity
when they should use all their skills gained during the training sessions in Star city.
Space food simulator will teach you how to heat and stuff you food. And, of course, you will get an
opportunity to taste space food! You have the opportunity not only to learn but also to taste the space
food.

The great Soviet rocket scientist and engineer Sergei Korolev (1906–1966) spent the last seven years
of his life in this house, which was transformed into a museum in 1975.
The interior of the house has been preserved since Korolev's time there and many of his personal
belongings are on display, including his note books and his extensive library Visitors are able to access
the house through the basement, where they will find that everything in the mansion remains exactly
where it was during the life of its owner. From the front porch, guests turn right to get to the entrance
hall which contains a small cloakroom. The cloakroom still contains the clothes Korolev wore on the
January day in 1966 when he went for the surgery that led to his death. Wooden stairs lead from the
entrance door to the upper floor. By the staircase, there is a copy of Grigory Postnikov’s sculpture To
Stars!
VISIT EXOTIC PLACES IN RUSSIA
Kremlin
Kremlin is the residence of Russian president and the main landmark of Russian capital.Inextricably
linked to all the most important historical and political events in Russia since the 13th century, the
Kremlin (built between the 14th and 17th centuries by outstanding Russian and foreign architects) was
the residence of the Great Prince and also a religious centre. At the foot of its ramparts, on Red
Square, St Basil's Basilica is one of the most beautiful Russian Orthodox monuments. In 13th century
the Kremlin was the official residence of supreme power - the center of temporal and spiritual life of
the state. The Kremlin of the late 15th – early 16th century is one of the major fortifications of Europe
(the stone walls and towers of present day were erected in 1485–1516). It contains an ensemble of
monuments of outstanding quality. The Moscow Kremlin was included among especially protected
cultural properties of nations of Russia - the highest conservation status for cultural and historical
monuments in Russian legislation.
Red Square
Red Square is the heart of Moscow and the main square of Russia. One cannot visit Moscow without
seeing Red Square. The word ‘red’ in the Square’s name means ‘beautiful’. Its monuments embody
Moscow’s centuries-old history in all of its manifestations. Few squares in the world combine churches,
defensive walls and towers, museums, a cemetery with a mausoleum, and a huge department store in a
single space. Buildings of different styles and centuries—from the 15th to the 20th—coexist in a single
composition, forming a unified architectural ensemble, so beautiful in its diversity. Red Square has long
been known as a trading place: trade was carried on in stone shops, commonly referred to as the
“trading rows”, ever since the times of Ivan the Terrible.
The 16th-century Saint Basil’s Cathedral is the symbol of Russian Orthodox Church architecture.A
wooden church built on Red Square in 1553 in honour of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos
and it was was erected by Russian architect Barma Postnik. St Basil’s Cathedral. The luxuriously
decorated cathedral was built to honor the Almighty for a remarkable military success ‒ the capture
of Kazan. It is noteworthy that the cathedral is made up of nine separate churches set on one base
and arranged into a single composition, the nine individual churches share the same foundation and
connected by two galleries.—this is how Russian architect Barma Postnik, the project author, solved
the challenging problem of designing a cathedral with nine side altars. The cathedral holds the remains
of Basil the Blessed, a fool for Christ who lived in Moscow in the 16th century.
The Gothic-turreted Spasskaya Tower, considered by many to be the most beautiful tower of the
Kremlin, was built under the supervision of Pietro Antonio Solari in 1491, and stands on the north-
eastern side of the citadel, bordering Red Square. The Russians have always regarded the Spasskaya
Tower with great reverence. According to old legends, the tower was possessed with miraculous powers
and was reputed to protect the Kremlin from enemy invasion. People passing through the gates would
always observe the custom of crossing themselves and doffing their hats to show their respect, and
horses passing under the gates of the tower were said to shy. In fact, legend has it that Napoleon
himself could not prevent his horse from taking fright as he rode through the gates, having failed to
show his respect, and the French Emperor's hat was said to have fallen from his head.
Zero kilometer
The bronze plaque marking Russia's Kilometre Zero, just in front of the Iberian Chapel, Zero kilometer
mark - all distances "from Moscow center" are measured from this point. The mark initially was planned
to be set up on Red Square between Lenin's Mausoleum and State Shopping Center in 1985.
Just make a wish and throw a coin over your shoulder
The gate derives its name from the icon of the Resurrection which was placed on it in 1680. The
entrance way to the Red Square is through the Resurrection Gate. It is historically considered to be
the front gate of the city. It is no exaggeration to say that any modern traveller to Moscow passes
through this gate. The Resurrection Gate arch establishes a visual link between two other remarkable
buildings – the State Historical Museum, while the small chapel by the gate houses one of the most
venerated icons – the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God. Right in front of the gate there is the
Kilometer Zero sign– this is the centre of Moscow and the starting point for measuring all distances in
Russia.
GUM, is a huge shopping mall (19th c.) in the eclectic style. GUM is an abbreviation for Gosudarstvenny
Universalny Magazin meaning State Department Store.
GUM is a huge shopping centre, largely offering expensive premium-segment items. However, if you
have a proper look around, you can find an eatery that serves reasonably priced meals as well as some
interesting shops with rather moderate prices.
Muscovites often drop into the GUM to get an ice cream – the local old-timers claim that the famous
wafer cups still have ‘that very’ taste of the much-loved Soviet-time treat.
The Museum of the Patriotic War of 1812 is located in the centre of Moscow in Revolution Square. The
building itself is an outstanding example of the “Neo-Russian” stylearose in second quarter of the 19th
century and was an eclectic melding of pre-Peterine Russian architecture and elements of Byzantine
architecture. The effect is a harmonious architectural ensemble, which works well together with other
landmarks around Red Square including the State Historical Museum.

Zaryadye Park
Zaryadye Park is the first public park built in Moscow for over 50 years, the last being the Soviet
Friendship Park built for the 1957 Festival of Youth and Students. The floating bridge is a thin air
structure in the form of the letter "V" with a large outward extension above the water. It towers over
the embankment and seems to hover over the Moscow River. The bridge is unique in Russia: it is a 70
meter structure without a single support. The bearing structure of the bridge is made of concrete,
and the decorative elements are made of metal.
Rocket Vostok
On 12 April 1961, the Vostok 3KA-3 (Vostok 1) spacecraft with Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin a Soviet
pilot and cosmonaut aboard was launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome. Gagarin thus became both the
first human to travel into space, and the first to orbit the Earth. See the Rocket Vostok model during
excursion.
