1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this procedure is to provide instruction for operating Bed ash cooler unit.

2.0 SCOPE

This procedure covers all the operational activities related to Bed ash cooler, which are
carried out by operation personnel and which will affect the quality of the services by
Wartsila India Limited at this power plant.

3.0 APPLICABILITY and RESPONSIBILITY

3.1 Plant Manager : Overall responsibility


3.2 Shift Engineer. : Implementation
3.4 All employees : Execution and compliance

4.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS

Technical Manual: Bed ash cooler.

5.0 GENERAL

The purpose of this unit is to cool the drained bed ash from the boiler.

6.0 CHECKLIST BEFORE STARTING BED ASH COOLER

 Ensure no work permit is opened.


 Check 3 Phase supply on panel.

 Start the bed ash cooling water pump; maintain pressure 5kg/cm2.
 Close the air release valve after all air is vented out.
 Ensure bed pressure/wind box pressure is high.
 Ensure the drain valve is in close condition.
 Start the Bed ash cooler in minimum speed and slowly open the drain valve.
 When reached the normal bed pressure and close the drain valve.

8.0 DO’S & DON’TS

 Always keep the area / unit clean.


 Unauthorized person should not be allowed to work on the control panel.

9.0 PPE’S
Ensure that the following, PPE’S to be worn before performing the job
1. Safety shoes.
2. Safety Helmet.
3. Hand gloves.
4. Nose Mask
5. Earplug.
