III. Procedure:
A. Review (Connotation and Denotation Lesson)
Each pair of phrases includes synonyms with different connotations. Put a + sign
on the line next to the one with a positive connotation, and a – on the line next to the one
with
a negative connotation.

Compound sentences are made of two simple sentences or independent clauses
joined by coordinating conjunctions such as and, or, but and so. They may be used to show
cause-and-effect relationship.
The transition/ signal words as a result, consequently, thus, therefore, and the
semicolon (;) may be used in compound sentence to show cause-and-effect relationship.
IV. Evaluating learning:
Complete each compound sentence to show cause-and-effect relationship. Do this on your

notebook.
