Abstract
Ectoparasites is a type of parasite that lives on the surface of the host body, make an
interaction and obtain food from its host. Catfish as one of the main host in the waters,
often infected by ectoparasites, especially on the fins, scales, operculum and gills. This
study aims to determine the diversity of the types and prevalence of ectoparasites on five
types of commercial fish in Batang River, District of Martapura. Data were collected for
3 times the fish pond habitat conditions differ primarily between the pond beside the
river with pool near the rice fields. Testing of species diversity and prevalence of
parasites carried by identifying samples to the laboratory of catfish (Pangasius Sp.).
Observations presence of parasites carried out in several parts of the body of the infected
host, among others, gills, skin, fins and tail. Calculation of parasite species diversity using
Simpson index while the prevalence and spread of parasites calculated using Morisita
index. Water quality measurement using the parameters of temperature, pH, and dissolved
oxygen. Methods of data processing is done subsequent descriptive data presentation is
made in the form of a frequency distribution table. Its found three types of
ectoparasites ie. Argulus Sp. Steinernema Sp., Dactylogyrus Sp., and Tricodina Sp.
Argulus Sp. can be found on the fins of catfish, and nematodes from Steinernema Sp can
be found in fin carp. Dactylogyrus Sp. Can be found on the gills of carp, while Tricodina
Sp. can be found on the scales catfish. The condition of an aquatic environment inhabited
by five species of fish (tilapia, catfish, pomfret, carp, and catfish) in Sungai Batang
West Martapura Subdistrict is relatively normal with a pH value between 7.0 and 7.7
and a temperature value between 290 C - 300 C.
