League of Denial: The NFL's Concussion Crisis.

My question is, what steps has NFL taken to ensure that its players are protected against

the impacts of this exposure on their players? Occupation safety and health (OSH) is concerned

with the health and safety of all workers in the entertainment industry. As depicted in “League of

Denial: The NFL's Concussion Crisis Season 32 Episode 2”, football should be regulated. “Iron

Mike” number 52 of steel city was a legend and a hero died eleven years after he retired. He was

only 50 when he died, as presented by the neurobiologist autopsy doctor Omalu could see the

effects of the 17 years of football life of “Iron Mike”. The players seem to enjoy the game in the

oblivion of the dangers that they go through. The harder the tackle was the louder the cheers, but

what considerations do the fans have with regards to their future health. They will only realize

these dangers once these impacts affect them. Brain trauma has become an obsession for Football

athletes. I consider that it shall also be of great importance for the relevant parties to set up rules

to protect children in the entertainment industry (Safety and Health in the Entertainment

Industry, 2018

Despite this associative evidence, NFL denied the relationship between these ties with

football perhaps other injuries might have resulted in this. There is little consideration that is

made with regards to the athlete’s health by NFL. NFL denies the relationship between this

disease and football despite Omalu’s confession about these relationships. NFL doctors distanced

themselves from this evidence stating that they did not know the concussion history of most of

these occurrences (League of Denial: The NFL's Concussion Crisis | FRONTLINE, 2018).

Post 1.

Indeed the video was eye-opening. It exposed the explored hidden horrors that happen with

the athletes. Several athletes mentioned in the movies went through very bad experiences before

their deaths that were related to their career. One of the victims Muhammed Ali was identified as

a great champion of boxing, but he later suffered from Parkinson’s disease caused by brain

trauma which was a result of too many punches on the head. I stand with the affirmative that

there should be regulation which will help to reduce the chances of injuries as a way of

protecting the athletes.

I believe that the sports industry reserves the ability to change this. Considerations about the

future lives of their athletes should be a priority, the bad thing is that they concentrate more on

making millions. As spectators, we rarely think the dangers that lack behind the performers. If it

is a footballer in the field, the dirtier and muddier it gets the more interesting it becomes. Despite

the importance of this matter, a lot of performers seem to ignore it. Performers have a whole

world of consideration but outside health and safety. What most fail to think that lark of these

concerns could be career ending (Korp, 2011). While most die with diseases related to football,

others were as a result of CTE, and depression resulting in a drug overdose. Rules have to be

changed and implemented to the grassroots (8 things you should know about sports scholarships,

2018).

Post 2.

Fear was created as a way of protection. If one perceives danger, even if its consequences are

long-term, the individual should avoid. On the perception of the underlying dangers in NFL, the

player should avoid. Remember, consider yourself first since it is pointless to end your life at the

expense of a career. The exposure of these experiences astonishing. NFL’s denial of these ties

between football and CTE is uncalled. From the movie, I don’t concur that the rules in football

are hard to change, it is the responsibility of NFL. It is only for a short time that fans will get to

enjoy the game once again.

Despite most athletes being aware of the dangers, they have always become victims of bad

decision due to “mob-psychology”. I support the decision of reinstating new regulations in most

of the sports that have great underlying dangers on the lives of the athletes. Employees have to

be protected against this through the labor industry. Professional sports companies should

contribute to the research is they care for the lives of these professionals, lest they shall be

considered selfish.

Post 3.

It is true that the movie exposes the dangers that athletes are exposed to including CTE. Most

dangers experienced in the entertainment industry are common between the occupants. Since

they differ per profession, it has made it difficult for professions to agree on the best common

way to deal with this matter. Each employee should work in an environment that is free from

risks. I agree with this decision that football should be regulated, I don’t think that this would

take long despite the fact that it might impact on the interest but this shall only a short period

before people embrace.

The athletes have to be protected by the labor laws, this sports organization made a lot of

money from these athletes. The association should also conduct a research about this to provide a

long-lasting solution, even if it means changing the regulations. This danger should not be

ignored by any chance (GamesCricketRugbyCFL, 2018).
