Snow…
She sat on an armchair in front of the window, a small book rested on her lap. Her hands lay on the
open pages, motionless, having stopped their continuous motions of revealing new pages.
Outside a blizzard raged on and the pale light could barely reach the motionless figure starring serenely
into the smoky storm.
A small, pale hand moved causing the book to fall. She stood up, still lost in thought. The wind’s
howling continued.
A tiny, plush like golem entered the room, picked up the book then started shuffling around, just out of
sight of the now standing figure near the window.
A shrill noise shattered the silence. A small female figure glided through the corridors towards the
entrance. Past the door, there laid a crystal path leading to the sole arrival point on the planet. As she
walked, up ahead, she saw five people. Her face took a slightly surprised expression, even as she went
to greet the arrivals. The land of eternal snow, had just received its first ever guests.
Five people, of varying looks and ages stood confused, watching as a blizzard raged outside the crystal
dome they were in.
They all turned startled, to see a most beautiful woman standing there. She was small, standing at only
five foot even, with dainty features. Her petite body, white skin and silver hair reaching her knees,
dressed in a baby blue dress made her look like a doll. Her face though, said a different story. Set on
her delicate face were a set of liquid mercury eyes that showed wisdom beyond her deceptively young
physical age.
‘I am Eira, the queen of this land.’ She continued, ’Would you mind telling me the reason of your
presence here?’ she asked curiously with a small tilt of her head.
One of the visitors found his voice and answered: ’I don’t know. I was hurt, almost dead when this being
that looked an awful lot like an angel appeared and said that I was going to be ok, and that I was going
someplace better. Then I woke up on a sandy beach, got rounded up with these people and was
somehow sent here. That is just about all I know.’ The others all nodded in agreement. It had been the
same for them.
Eira sighed. She could probably send them away. It was her territory after all, but, in this isolated frozen
land there has never been any visitors. She was alone, ruling over a glacial world of nothingness. In
time she had created golems, more out of boredom than any real necessity, but now… now, humans,
real, living humans have stepped into her home. It wasn’t like she felt lonely, but still a little, hopefully
intelligent, company would do no harm.
‘I see. Follow me then, I shall explain everything.’ And saying that she started heading back through the
tunnel, leaving the others with no other choice but t follow.
As they walked, it became clear that even though the crystal walls surrounding them were transparent,
nothing outside could be seen. Due to the blizzard the landscape seemed to only be composed of
dunes of wispy white snow. Soon the end of the tunnel could be seen, and a giant white door stood ajar
for them
