In our project we are going to design a school which meets important, necessary
and essential standards for children suffering with autism.
Children with autism typically do not segment their environments. Hence features
like painting the walls with non-stimulating neutral colours, limiting amount of
visual clutters are to be considered. Fluorescent lights produce distraction and must
be avoided. Hence features to control lighting like curtains are used.
Auditory distractions are also reduced by using acoustic tiles, lowering the ceiling
and by other appropriate facilities. Separate work areas have to be designed for
those students. Apart from those features we also try to bring out good ventilation
facilities. We also aim in bringing good sanitary facilities for the students in a good
atmosphere devoid of distracting external environment.
Thus our project is designed to have a model working school for children with
autism meeting their special requirements and their special educational needs.
