AREA STATEMENT
Shopping malls vary in their size and amount of lighting & air-conditioning used. But the following
sample calculation should point you in the right direction:
Assume 100 shops (counting the equivalent of all areas), and assume on average each shop uses 2
kW with A/C. Further assume the mall and the shops open for 12 hours a day.
So daily power consumption = 2 x 100 x 12 = 2400 kWh. Each kWh (i.e. ‘unit of electric power’)
costs at least around Rs 8/- at commercial rates.
