Introduction

O
ne of the pillars of Vision 2020 in Rwanda is the protection and the
management of the environment. The objective of the Government
is to built a nation where the pressure on natural resources, particularly
on land, water, biomass and biodiversity has significantly been reduced
and the process of environmental pollution and degradation has been
reversed; a nation where the management and the protection of these
resources and of the environment are more rational and well regulated
in order to preserve and leave to future generations the basic wealth
necessary for sustainable development.

The agricultural sector, the backbone of Rwanda’s economy, currently contributes to 34% of GDP.
By 2020, it is targeted that agriculture contributes to 25% of GDP. Therefore, agriculture shall
continue to contribute significantly to the economy.

Our Mission
“CBID” is in charge to produce and to improve the Organic Fertilizer resulting from the controlled biological decomposition of organic material. The organic
fertilizer will be sanitized by generating heat and, after that, it will be stabilized. This product will have the unique ability to improve the chemical, physical, and
biological characteristics of soils, to supply the growing media for a good environmental sustainable development.

• More local production for less Importation • New permanent jobs

• Reduction of the environmental impact of landfills • Low price for high quality
• Enhance soil nutrients for plant Growth • Increasing production in a sustainable way
• Access to organic international markets. • Reduction of government subsidies cost

Through our actions, we will increase the recycling of organic materials, and further, the use of clean compost as a way to: complete the Organics Recycling Loop,
reduce organics in landfills, reduce GHG emissions, reduce the use of petro-based chemicals (fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides) in agriculture and landscaping,
reduce water consumption, and create “green” jobs in Rwanda.

Our Action Plan (3 years)
After launching of the “Alpha” platform, “Capacity Building for Innovative Development” will establish a new operational platform each month during 3 years. At
last, 30 of composting industrial platforms will be operational in national level, each one with 6,000 tons/year of production, for a total of 180,000 tons. Each
platform will be built with specifications and nomenclature of the “Alpha” platform.

The effective cost of installing a platform is 10 million Rwf, including essential equipment for composting process, like crusher, sieve, cover and ventilation
system controlled automatically. Over 3 years, a large recruitment, training and management work should be carried out to meet the human resource needs of the
project. After this first step, other platforms will be able to be created, some with larger scale of production, based on the availability of raw materials.
