A Mega International Convention Centre @ Amaravati
Creating a international convention centre at the developing capital city of
Andhra Pradesh - Amaravati.
INTRODUCTION
Amaravati, the new capital city of the State of Andhra Pradesh, is a greenfield city
being developed on 217.23 sq. km area of land along the banks of river Krishna
with horizon population of 3.5 million by 2050.
It is envisioned to be the “People’s Capital of Andhra Pradesh” and a pioneer Smart
City in India.
While the city has been envisaged to capitalize the rich heritage and culture of the
region to create a unique identity, its positioning as an economic powerhouse is
expected to structurally move economic activities in the region.
Amaravati is envisioned to be one of the top centres of economic, cultural & business
activities of the South-East Asian region and a preferred destination for Meetings,
Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions (MICE).
The APCRDA has initiated the development of a State-of-the-Art MICE HUB
comprising a Mega International Convention Centre along with other allied facilities
including Exhibition Centre, Hotel(s), Multi-entertainment, Retail and Commercial
Development (including the residential component), Food Court, River Front – Hi-
Street, Jetty, etc., at the new Greenfield Capital City of Amaravati, wherein one of
the strategically located C6 Zones (Central Business District Zones) spread over
approx. 42.0 Acres and situated along the banks of the Krishna River, has been
earmarked for the development.
AIM
Creating an international convention Centre with a mega international convention
centre, Exhibition halls, Open paved facility, 5 star hotel and art & craft centre.
Designing a world class meeting place, public gathering place.
Designing the convention Centre to international standards so that it can attract the
people from other countries to increase the economic growth of the city.
Creating viewpoints at the convention centre to get the great view of Krishna river
Designing the MICE HUB as it should enrich the both cultural and economic prospects
of the city.
OBJECTIVE
To enrich the economic and cultural prospects of the city.
To generate a vocabulary and design temperament of the project for architectural
expression that will reflect the urban character of that place.
To promote a platform for interaction between various sections of society. This
would lead to better understanding of each other’s trade and spread awareness
among the people that is the need of the hour.
To study urban context of the site and surrounding and mark distinction wherever
required.
To study the climatic responsive design.
To study the socio-economic impact of the project and incorporate the desired
changes in the design.
To create a space where corporate section can come and meet in informal way
and can share ideas & knowledge.
The main objective of designing a convention centre is to help organizations hire
on temporary basis a few common facilities like auditoriums, seminar halls, lecture
rooms, convention halls, commercial/retail space etc., simultaneously in the same
premise.
To provide an international platform to the various sectors a great opportunity
through this International Convention Centre.
SCOPE
Amaravati is the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh. The ministry of
Andhra Pradesh assigned a Singapore based architecture firm to design the city’s
urban planning so in a developing city this convention centre will give a good
economic growth.
It’ll create possibilities of origin of a business centre at Amaravati.
Comprehensive socio-cultural and business activities to people
It’ll act as a riverfront development structure
The MICE HUB will create the possibilities of investment of multi-national
Companies in Amaravati
It’ll boost the river front development.
The landscaped area of the convention centre will act as a public gathering space
and it’ll act as a pollution barrier.
THRUST AREA
Understanding the relationship between open spaces and the built form.
Understanding the massing elements and international style of architecture.
The different characteristics of spaces like the difference between a exhibition hall
and a open foot court and landscape paves.
LIMITATIONS
The MICE HUB is going to be constructed in two phases.
Phase – I
22 acres of land is allocated to the first phase of construction.
Which will have
Mega international convention centre
Exhibition halls – Multi-purpose hall
Open paved facility
Food courts
Trade market
Office space
Phase – II
The second phase of construction will have the remaining area which is 20 acres
for the expansion of convention centre and for commercial purposes.
The MICE HUB thesis will be limited with the first phase.

Understanding the environment to study research papers Analysis and conclusion
based on the observations made during the processes mentioned above, evolving the
concept, and further enhancing the design, which can be converted it into reality
SITE LOCATION
The site is located at the banks of the Krishna river.
The site is lying on c6 zone which is commercial business district zone in the detailed
master plan of Amaravati.
The total site area is 42 acres, site allocated for phase I – 22 acres.

SCOPE OF THE SITE
The site is located at the bank of Krishna river.
It is lying on the karakatta road so it’ll create more visible to the convention
centre.
OUTCOME/CONCLUSION
The implementation the international convention centre will create business zone
at Amravati.
The convention Centre will increase the economic growth of the capital city.
