Myths and legends from Colombia show that this is a magical

and mysterious country since almost every region has its own
stories full of superstitions. They are a part of the oral traditions
in most of the towns. Their cultural value is very high because
they are narratives that contain explanations of important
events. However, they are different in some aspects. Legends
are stories that have their roots in a historical, but unverifiable
event; their main characters are real people who lived in a
certain period of time.
Myths explain the beginning of something, and they include

supernatural elements. They depend on cosmology; their main
characters are deities, or semi-deities who represent an ancient
culture's explanation about the world's origin. Colombian
examples of these genres are the Sombrerón, and the myth of
the origin of the sun and the moon. The legend of the Sombrerón
is based on a mysterious old Colombian villager from Antioquia.
When he died, his spirit started to scare people who wandered
from one place to another at night. He followed his victims
through lonely, ancient roads, usually accompanied by two huge
frightening black dogs.
The myth of the origin of the sun and the moon is based on the
Chibcha's beliefs. In the beginning, there were just two
amazingly wise old people in the world: Iraca and Ramiriquí.
Iraca was sad because they lived in darkness. Thus, Ramiriquí
went off the planet and turned into the Ssun. Iraca did the same;
he turned into another brilliant huge white object: the Mmoon.
Now, let's write a myth or a legend. To do it, remember to follow
these steps: first, choose the main characters, and consider the
scenario. Next, propose an interesting plot with problems and
resolutions. Finally, join your ideas to create your story!
