european specialist in
Since 1936, CATU’s activity has been concentrated on equipment for personal protection against
electrical hazards and accordingly, has now 70 years experience in this field.
After the end of World War II, many French companies involved in Production, Transmission and
Distribution of Electrical Energy were amalgamated into one National Company, called "Electricité
de France" (EDF).
A short time later, a central department for Safety and Prevention of Accidents was created within
EDF. Because of the experience that CATU already had in this field, a very close cooperation was
forged between EDF and CATU which resulted in joint development and improvement of all the
important Safety Material and Equipment now used in France.

The international recognition gained by EDF in this field has contributed to giving CATU a foremost
position at the World Wide level.

International Electrotechnical Commission is a
worldwide organization for standardization
comprising national electrotechnical committees
(NC). The object of the IEC is to promote
international cooperation on all questions
concerning standardization in the electrical
fields. These standard have been approved by
more than 50 different countries including
Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany,
Japan, Russia, Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico,
India, Indonesia, South Africa, New Zealand, USA…
CATU shows its innovation ability for the welfare of the electrical world.
Golden safety rules
However, it has also been statistically observed that the most common
causes of unexpected presence of voltage on electrical lines or installations
were due to:
- A mistake in operating a switch
- A mistake in identifying the work to perform
- A "faulty" switch (one of the links for example remaining partially
engaged)

Insulation tester
The insulation resistance of an installation must be checked perio- CEI 61010-1
dically and when it is commissioned. Furthermore, a measurement EN 61557-2
of the insulation resistance of the entire installation (or group of cir-
cuits) may be necessary when troubleshooting.
Operating principle
The measurement voltage shall be 500 V DC (for installations ope-
rating at 500 V or less) in order to detect any insulation defect bet-
ween two cables that are normally isolated from each other. The
choice of a high test voltage provides an easier means of demons-
trating a latent insulation fault (conventional ohmmeters only output
a few volts).
An installation is declared to be conform if the insulation resistance
is > 500 KΩ.
The DT-500 insulation tester provides an easy, fast and safe means
of making this measurement.
In this configuration, the neutral and the phase are linked together
which avoids any damage on electronic components (Fig.2).
Technical characteristics
our insulation tester is designed according to standard
EN 61557-2.
It also respects international electrical safety standard
IEC 61010-1.

In the context of the IEC-61230 international standard, CATU offers and answers to your needs with a large range of short-circuiting
and earthing systems for substations and lines. These equipments are fitted with silicone-sheathed cables and double-crimped lugs
at both ends: crimped once to the cable itself and once to the cable envelope.
This type of connection has been mechanically tested by simultaneous traction and twisting, followed by a proofing test in a soda bath.
Before the short-circuiting tests, all components of this equipment are subjected to a cycle in a saline mist, to provide artificial ageing.

Operation
Attachment and removal is carried out from the ground or from the
cross-arm, using a rope passed previously over the conductor to be
earthed.
- Attachment: the clamp is pulled up by the rope. Pulling on the
rope triggers the spring and closes the jaw.
- Removal: pulling on the rope attached to the hinged saddles
causes the clamp to pivot and free the jaw.

First and largest
european specialist in
Since 1936, CATU’s activity has been concentrated on equipment for personal protection against
electrical hazards and accordingly, has now 70 years experience in this field.
