PART 2:
Task 4-A: My Effective Classroom Rules
From your teaching practice experience you will analyze, in a short report, how you
formulated appropriate classroom rules. Reflect on the effectiveness of these classroom
rules. Explain how you taught and implemented these rules in the classroom.

Paragraph 1
Give an introduction about classroom management – classroom rules
During TP I made some classroom rules for my lesson. (combined) My rules were

1. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

2. Respect other people and their property (e.g., no hitting, no stealing).
3. Laugh with anyone, but laugh at no one.
4. Be responsible for your own learning.
5. Come to class and hand in assignments on time.
6. Do not disturb people who are working.

Why did you create these rules? Manage

A rule identifies general expectations or standards; a single rule can encompass a wide range
of expected behaviors. A procedure communicates expectations for specific behaviors.
Effective teachers use both rules and procedures. For example, you might establish
the rule“Respect other students and their property” and also create separate procedures for
returning books to the appropriate place in the classroom and participating respectfully in class
discussions. The number and kind of rules and procedures vary from class to class and from
grade to grade, but every good teacher has them. How students treat one another, when and
how students may leave the room, and when it is appropriate to speak out in class are common
topics for rules and procedures in every grade.

Paragraph 2
How did you teach and implemented these rules in the classroom.
I Teach them the rules and I discuss each rule individually, explaining the rationale behind it
and ask for examples of how it could be broken. Explain that rules help make everyone's time
in school more enjoyable, and use examples to illustrate this point. It's also a good idea to post
the rules as a reminder and send a copy home with each student.

At beginning of TP, I presented my rules on a poster …

Paragraph 3
How did the rules help you to be effective? Why do teachers need rules

Teachers play various roles in a typical classroom, but surely one of the most important is that
of classroom manager. Effective teaching and learning cannot take place in a poorly managed
classroom. Effective teachers appear to be effective with students of all achievement levels
regardless of the levels of heterogeneity in their classes. If the teacher is ineffective, students
under that teacher’s tutelage, will achieve inadequate progress academically, regardless of how
similar or different they are regarding their academic achievement.(see Hattie, 1992; Cahen &
Davis, 1987).The effective teacher performs many functions that can be organized into three
major roles: (1) making wise choices about the most effective instruction strategies to employ,
(2) designing classroom curriculum to facilitate student learning, and (3) making effective use
of classroom management techniques (Marzano, Pickering, & Pollock, 2001). Therefore,
effective teachers have a wide array of instructional strategies at their disposal, are skilled at
identifying and articulating the proper sequence and pacing of their content, are skilled in
classroom management techniques.
