2.1 EXCAVATION AND EARTH WORK
Tenderers are advised to refer to relevant

preamble notes, drawings and specifications
before pricing each work section.
Before starting any operation at site, the

relevant authority shall be informed and obtain
prior approval.
Note:
All excavations are measured net. No allowance

is made for working space.
Rate for Shoring & dewatering included for

excavation.
Rock blasting if necessary for the excavation,

shall be paid separately.
2.1.1 Clearing the site including removal of roots,

growth of every description cutting down top soil
and existing foundations if any , all up to an
average depth of 150mm extended up to 3m
beyond the outer wall of the proposed building
including trees & stumps girth < 500 mm and
carrying away the waste materials from the site

Anti-termite Treatment
Note:
Termite treatment should be applied to all new
construction. Contractor shall submit and get
approval from Engineer for method statement
before commence the works.

Allow for anti termite treatment for barrier and
colony elimination at preconstruction stage. The
service provider should hold a valid license for
termite treatment issued from register
Department of Agriculture. Rate to include for a
complete treatment with
1. Treatment before placing the foundation

2. Treatment after placing floor concrete.
3. Treatment along the periphery of the building.
The services provider should give minimum 10

years warranty against termite treatment. The
service provider should submit the list of
Termiticide intended to use for Engineer's
approval. The following minimum requirements
to be maintained.
1. Application rate 5l/m2

2. Termiticide Concentration : 12.5ml/L
3. Termite pump pressure rate : 250 psi
2.1.6 Application of anti termite treatment (Biflex or

equivalent) under the ground floor slab including
1.2m beyond the outer wall in accordance with
the manufacture's specifications and to the

2.2 CONCRETE WORKS
INSITU - CONCRETE
Note :-
Mass concrete Grade 15 (25 mm agg.) - including
supply, placing, compacting and curing.
Constituent material shall comply to following;


(i) River sand shall satisfy with the grading
criteria prescribed in Table 4.2 in the ICTAD
Publication SCA/4/I. & the clay content shall not
be more than 4%.
Reinforced concrete Grade 25 (20 mm agg.) -

Volume Batched, including supply, placing,
compacting and curing.
(i) Cement of strength class 42.5N and shall

comply with SLS 107 (Ordinary Portland
Cement), that has been stored under proper
conditions and has manufactured within 90 days
at the time of concreting.
(ii) Clean river sand without impurities and clay

particles of grain distribution falling within the
prescribed grading limit in BS 882:1992.
(iii) Clean portable water
Contractor shall made available following

equipment at site before starting to concrete.

Payment for concreting shall be made upon

submission of following.
(a) Concrete cube crushing strength test results;

28 day results shall be available to make full
payment.
READY MIX CONCRETE
Requirement for Readymix concrete
Readymix Concrete - Contractor shall submit and

get approval from The Engineer for method
statement before commence the works.

1. Minimum cement content shall be 300 kg/m3
2. Nominal maximum size of aggregate shall be

20mm.
3. Slump shall be 120mm ± 25mm - Maximum
temperature 300C
4. Maximum free water / cement ratio to be 0.5
5. Coarse and Fine aggregate used shall confirm

to BS 882 latest version
6. Concrete grade shall be as specified.
7. Concrete mix design shall be approved by the
Engineer or Engineer's nominated Senior
Technical officer.
8. The Ready mix supplier's plant should have

been calibrated in the recent past.
9. Testing
Collection of samples for testing shall be at the
point of placing. One sample per 5m3, one
sample shall mean 3 test cubes
Readymix Concrete - Confirming to SLS 1144-

1997, Rate shall include for transport 20km from
batching plant.

2.4 WATER PROOFING
Note :-
The water proofing material shall conform to

manufacture/supplier of the waterproofing
materials shall furnish a warranty to the
Employer valid for a period of 10 years after
handing over of the work against dampness
and/or moisture penetration through treated
surfaces due to defective materials and/or
workmanship.

Engineer for method statement before

Pond test shall be carried out after the

application, for a depth of 300mm for the period
of 24 hrs.

2.6 METAL WORK
All doors and windows shall be fixed complete to

working order as shown in drawings.
All the works involve with aluminum should

be carried out according to the detail
drawings and specifications. Rate shall include
for all fabrications works, delivery , unloading,
hoisting , all accessories and fixing in position.
and all Iron mongary fittings and locking
devices , 5 mm thick clear float glass. All
aluminum doors and widows frames sashes
1.2-1.6 mm thick & including necessary
gasket, sealant, glass wool etc.
Rate shall include for all necessary fixing,

fittings, iron mongery, and locking devices of
approved quality as per specification schedule.
All Aluminium shall be natural anodizing

original sections (Anodizing coat shall be
standard aluminium alloy anodic oxidation
coating and thickness 10 - 15 Microns) approved
by the Engineer/Architect.
All windows are casement windows using 5 mm

float glass, rubber beadings strip with silicon
gum.
Aluminium alloy should confirm to- BS

1474:1972 Surface treatment shall confirm to BS
1615 and BS 3987
The over-all profile dimensions used for main

members of each component shall be as
follows.
Doors - 100mm x 1.6mm thick

Windows - Casement - 70 mm x 1.2 mm thick
Windows - Sliding -70mm x 1.5 mm thick

Fan Light - 60mm x 1.2mm thick
Partition - 76mm x 1.2mm thick
Shop drawings should be submitted and got

approval from the Engineer prior to fabrication.

2.10 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS
Note:-

The Tenderers are requested to refer the General
notes, Drawings and study the taxes, safety

The Tenderer shall provide all dimensions, and
technical information, of all builders work to the
Engineer/Consultant in accordance with the
programme of work.
Work shall be done in accordance with

specifications for electrical and mechanical
works - ICTAD Publication No. SCA/8 of
Aug.2000(2 nd Edition -Revised).
Rates in Bill of Quantities shall include all

necessary materials (Cables, conduits, PVC sunk
box, bulbs, switches etc.) and labour required to
complete the electrical installation to good
working order.
Except where specifically stated, all costs

associated with provision of all holes, openings,
chases, ducts and other builders' work required
for installation and make them good, shall be
included in the rates.
Where reference is made to certain

manufactures' products and items identified by
registered trade marks, has been done for the
sole purpose of defining and establishing
standards of quality and performance and not
with the intention of restricting the procurement
of material or fitting to a particular
manufacturer. However all equipment and
material should meet the BS or an equivalent
standard.
Testing and commissioning of the electrical

installation is to be carried out by the contractor
and inspection report submitted according to the
requirements of the power supply Authority.
Electrical Items (MCB,RCCB etc.) should be of

European/Japanese origin or to the BS or
equivalent and items without an accredited
agent in Sri Lanka shall not be accepted.
Guarantee cards should be provided from
accredited agent before installation.
All the quantities given here are approximated

values and Quantities may change with the
actual installation at the site.

All types of fittings, materials, painting and
finishes shall be approved by the Engineer prior
to installation.
All panel boards and consumer units should

have wire numbering and a laminated circuit

3.1 CONCRETE WORKS
INSITU - CONCRETE
Note :-
Mass concrete Grade 15 (25 mm agg.) - including
supply, placing, compacting and curing.
(i) River sand shall satisfy with the grading

criteria prescribed in Table 4.2 in the ICTAD
Publication SCA/4/I. & the clay content shall not
be more than 4%.
Reinforced concrete Grade 25 (20 mm agg.) -

Volume Batched, including supply, placing,
compacting and curing.
(i) Cement of strength class 42.5N and shall

comply with SLS 107 (Ordinary Portland
Cement), that has been stored under proper
conditions and has manufactured within 90 days
at the time of concreting.
(ii) Clean river sand without impurities and clay

particles of grain distribution falling within the
prescribed grading limit in BS 882:1992.
(iii) Clean portable water
Contractor shall made available following

equipment at site before starting to concrete.

Payment for concreting shall be made upon
submission of following.
(a) Concrete cube crushing strength test results;

28 day results shall be available to make full

READY MIX CONCRETE
Requirement for Readymix concrete
Readymix Concrete - Contractor shall submit and

get approval from The Engineer for method
statement before commence the works.
1. Minimum cement content shall be 300 kg/m3
2. Nominal maximum size of aggregate shall be

20mm.
3. Slump shall be 120mm ± 25mm - Maximum
temperature 300C
4. Maximum free water / cement ratio to be 0.5
5. Coarse and Fine aggregate used shall confirm

to BS 882 latest version
6. Concrete grade shall be as specified.
7. Concrete mix design shall be approved by the
Engineer or Engineer's nominated Senior
Technical officer.
8. The Ready mix supplier's plant should have

been calibrated in the recent past.
9. Testing
Collection of samples for testing shall be at the
point of placing. One sample per 5m3, one
sample shall mean 3 test cubes
Readymix Concrete - Confirming to SLS 1144-

3.3.1 Water proofing internal walls of toilet ( 300
mm high in toilet walls and 1500 mm in bath
room walls ) with approved quality liquid
type water proofing chemical. including cleaning
and protect the water proofing area with 20 mm
thick average thick. 1:3 cement and sand plaster
to walls and floor with forming required
shapes with fiber glass net for edges and to
manufacture specification. The contractor is
required to submit the details of
manufacture's specification with 10 years
guarantee for the Engineers approval.

for signed copies of the day work sheets to be
returned to him by the Engineer. A signed copy

Except in cases of prior agreement, any decision

with regard to payment on a Day work basis for

6.3 PLANT & EQUIPMENT


Attendant labour on mechanical plant and
labour erecting and dismantling other plant will
be paid for as "labour". Where plant is employed
on Daywork the Contractor shall be reimbursed
for the use of mechanically operated plant and
transport for the time engaged in daywork at the
rates contained in the Plant Schedule. These
rates include for Contractor establishment
charges. Mechanical Plant not included in the
Schedule will be paid for at rate analogous to the Note
Schedule. The rates quoted are all inclusive and
shall be included for overheads and profit.
Standing and breakdown time will be deemed to

be included in the rates. Note
Plant that is working inefficiently due to

mechanical defector deficiency shall be paid at
rates pro-rata to the rated capacity of the plant. Note
Labour involved in servicing and maintenance of

plant shall be deemed to be included in the rates Note
for plant.
