Parents!
Meet Your Third Grade Teaching Team
*Responsibility is a BIG part of third grade and we expect students to start showing
more independence and responsibility through their behaviors and their work.
* Let your student “fail” a few times and help them learn from the fail (if they forget
homework, let them forget it instead of bringing it to them)

EL Curriculum:
WCPSS has chosen EL Education as the new
curriculum resource to support teachers in grades
3-8 for the 2018-19 school year.
1.
What is EL Education?
EL Education is a curriculum written by and for teachers
with emphasis placed on active learning and student
engagement. Classrooms are structured with highly
collaborative activities that allow students to engage in
academic conversations and investigations of rich
academic topics. EL aims to contribute to the student’s
ability to be globally competitive and active contributors
in building a better world.

How is an EL lesson structured?
- Whole group followed by practice with partners/groups

○ We explicitly teach communication skills.
○ At home: Support with Magical Conversations!
★ Growth Mindset
○ We strive to produce learners who enjoy showing their full

Homework-
In 3rd Grade, we really want our students to develop the skills
they need to be responsible and independent. In order to do this,
we expect your child to take the initiative to fill out their daily
agenda, bring their homework and folder home, complete the
assigned homework, and return it to school the next day.
