PLEA is a global network that has led a worldwide discourse on architectural and
urban design through its conferences since 1982. Originally focussed on ‘Passive and
Low Energy Architecture’ the scope of its remit has expanded to also encompass many
different aspects of Low Carbon, Sustainable and Resilient Design for Buildings, Cities and
Ecosystems. It has thousands of professional, academic, student and industry members
from over 40 countries.
PLEA conferences are highly ranked, attracting academia, architects, engineers and
planners with support from industry, cities and governments. Over 600 delegates are
expected to attend PLEA 2017 in Edinburgh. The PLEA world leading Keynote Speakers
will address vital issues of the day on sustainable and resilient built environments.
Scotland and Edinburgh are hosting PLEA 2017 to learn from, and share, progress
made here and elsewhere in building a more resilient country through new thinking in
education, modern design, refurbishment of the historic building stock, energy and water
systems, tools, technologies, materials and planning, design policies and demonstration
projects.
PLEA 2017 Exhibition will be formally opened on the evening of July 3rd 2017 and
close after lunch on the 5th July, held in the first floor Ballroom and two flanking Drawing
rooms at the Assembly Rooms on George Street, in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic New
Town. First built in 1787 the gracious Assembly Rooms have hosted great debates and
displays in them since the height of the 18th Century Scottish Enlightenment.
PLEA 2017 Exhibition is split into three sections. The Ballroom includes exhibition
space for architectural, construction, energy, water and services companies demonstrating
new thinking and products in the field. Drawing Room One will house exhibits from the
Scottish Schools of Architecture and Engineering and Partner Organisations. Drawing
Room Two will house and exhibition of innovative construction materials and opportunities.
An Exhibition in the Assembly Ballrooms will showcase best practice and innovations
in many fields of sustainable architecture, settlements, education, technology and design.
The PLEA 2017 Welcome Reception and opening of the Exhibition will be
held at 17.30 – 19.30 on July 3rd after the first Plenary in the Music Room of the Assembly
Building.
