SEWER DESIGN CALCULATION

WASTE WATER FLOW RATE

Hydraulic Design

1. Minimum Velocity = 0.8 m/s

2. Maximum Velocity = 4 m3/s
3. Minimum depth of Invert = 0.6 m
4. Minimum Size of Sewer = 150 DWCP

For this calculation, 2 units of residential house are considered for development.

PE = 2 units ×5 person per unit = 10

Design Parameters

a) Flow

In accordance with MS 1228 : 1991 C1.3.2 average design flow.

Average daily design flow = 225L per day per PE

= 225L×10 =2250 L/day

1 1
= 2250 L/day = 2250L/day × × =2.6×10-5 m3/s.
24×60×60 1000

To carter for peak hourly flow.

Peak flow factor = 4.7×p-0.11 where p is the estimated PE in thousand

Qpeak = Peak flow factor× PE× Average daily flow

= 4.7×0.01-0-11×10×2.6×10-5 m3/s

= 2.02×10-4 m3/s (where p=5, MS 1228 : 1991 )

Where, Qpeak = Qreq

b) Pipe.

For pipe design:

Diameter = 150mm DWCP Sewer Pipe

Gradient, S = 1:300

Manning’s coefficient = 0013

Qprov = (1/n R2/3S1/2)(A)

1 0.15 2 1 1
=( ×( )3 × ( )2 ) × (𝜋(0.075)2 )
0.013 2 300

Qprov = 0.014 m3/s > QreqP

c) Velocity

V = Q/A
0.014 m3/s
= = 0.8 m/s (satisfy)
𝜋(0.075)2

Conclusion

150mm DWCP Sewer Pipe can carter 2 units of residential house.
