Venus in astrology

Venus is the next primary planet in our solar system. The maximum perceived angle from the Sun is
no more than 48 degrees and like Mercury, it is only seen as a Morning- or Evening-Star. However, no
other star is of such a shining and beautiful appearance. The light is often so brilliant and white that
one can read a newspaper by night at certain places on the Earth.

Venus completes its orbit around the Sun in 224 days, 16 hours, 49 minutes and 8 seconds. Its orbit is
the most circular of all planets. Its average distance to the Sun is 67 million miles (108,000,000 kms),
and it has a of diameter 7629 miles (12,230 kms). Its size is closest to that of the Earth's.

In mythology, the twofold appearance of Venus as the Morning- and Evening-Star is emphasized over
and over again. Phosphoros is the Morning-Star and Hesporos the Evening-Star. Aphrodite/Venus is
considered an enticing creature, even to the extent that Aries/Mars submits to her. Being the
daughter of Jupiter/Zeus she is born out of the ocean's foam, symbolizing heavenly love. She is the
deity who reigns over the realm of instinctive, sensual pleasures.

Venus represents the feminine nature, the appreciation of love and harmony, as well as a sense for
the arts. In the horoscope, she bears witness for the need of culture, tact, and manners. Venus is
supposed to bring some form of luck, but one should be careful in this respect. One might be lured
by her into a tempting abyss.

With a harmonious horoscope position, one might find that good fortune and a friendly manner
insures some success. A desire to provide happiness can spawn generous feedback--after all, the
appreciation of love and a sense of harmony are perhaps the most immediate forms of happiness
human beings are able to experience. Venus can, of course, be amorous, and the sensual world of
pleasure is often on the agenda.

It is important to distinguish Venus as being either the Morning-Star or the Evening-Star at one's
birth. Morning-Star Venus is located clockwise ahead of the Sun in a chart and counterclockwise for
the Evening-Star. In the morning, Venus represents female creativity, denoting further the beauty in
everyday life (a comfortable home and relaxing nighttime leisure activities). It embodies the
impressions of nature, sentiments regarding reality, and an accommodating form of love. The
Morning-Star Venus finds its attachment in the zodiac sign of Taurus.

Evening-Star Venus symbolizes female devotion. Venus represents the ability of a person to be
soaked up by some form of togetherness; it also represents female prudence and the female spirit,
as well as a refined sense of the arts. It can even invoke a tempestuous desire for jewelry and style.
Sometimes she symbolizes the dark, mysterious female--the sorceress of love. Evening-Star Venus is
attached to the sign of Libra.
