This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the signal of the speed sensor for the left track as having an
abnormal frequency. The engine must be running and the lever must be in the FORWARD position or the REVERSE
position in order to detect this diagnostic code.
The + battery circuit (497-BU) from the electrical system to the sensor is open.
System Response:
When this diagnostic code occurs, the action lamp is NOT on. The machine will rely on accurate calibration values
for straight tracking performance.
Note: A diagnostic code will not be logged if both tracks are stalled for seven seconds.
Note: Certain procedures can cause diagnostic codes for the speed sensor to occur. A stall condition for one track
could trigger a diagnostic code for the speed sensor.
Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code for the sensor is on hold and that the diagnostic indicator is ON. This procedure
can cause related diagnostic codes to be recorded. Ignore these created diagnostic codes. When the procedure is
completed, clear the created diagnostic codes.
C. At the machine harness connector for the sensor, measure the resistance between return circuit J1-70 (J764-BR)
and the frame ground.
Expected Result:
Results:
STOP
C. At the machine harness for the sensor, measure the voltage. Measure the voltage from contact 1 (wire 497-BU)
and contact 2 (wire J764-BR).
Expected Result:
Results:
NOT OK - The + battery circuit is open between the sensor and the ECM.
STOP
C. At the machine harness for the sensor, measure the voltage for the signal circuit A. Measure the voltage from
contact 3 (769-BU) and contact 2 (J764-BR).
D. At the machine harness for the sensor, measure the voltage for the signal circuit B. Measure the voltage from
contact 4 (835-PU) and contact 2 (J764-BR).
Expected Result:
The voltage that is measured is 4.0 to 6.0 DCV for both measurements.
Results:
NOT OK - The machine harness or the ECM has failed. Proceed to test step 4.
D. At machine harness connector J1 and J2, measure the resistance. Measure the resistance from the contact J2-43
(wire 835-PU) and contact J2-42 (wire 769-BU) of the machine harness to all contacts that are used in the
machine harness connectors for the ECM.
Expected Result:
The resistance should be greater than 5000 ohms for each measurement.
Results:
OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to test step 5.
NOT OK - The resistance is NOT correct. There is a short in the machine harness. The short is between wire
769-BU and the circuit with the low resistance measurement or the short is between wire 835-PU and the circuit
with the low resistance measurement.
STOP
C. The J1 and J2 machine harness connectors remain disconnected from the ECM.
D. At the J1 machine harness connector, measure the resistance from the sensor contacts J2-43 (wire 835-PU) and
J2-42 (wire 769-BU) to all possible sources of ground.
Expected Result:
The resistance that is measured is greater than 5000 ohms for each measurement.
Results:
OK - The resistance that is measured is greater than 5000 ohms for each measurement. Proceed to test step 6.
Repair: The short is between the wire for the sensor signal and the circuit with the low resistance
measurement. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.
STOP
C. Remove the speed sensor. Inspect the speed sensor for damage or the presence of a foreign material on the tip.
Clean the tip. If the sensor is damaged, replace the sensor.
Expected Result:
Results:
OK - The sensor is not damaged. The sensor is free of foreign material. Proceed to test step 7.
A. Inspect the contacts and clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
C. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
F. Stop the machine and place the parking brake switch in the ON position.
Expected Result:
Results:
OK - The diagnostic code is NO longer active. The diagnostic code does not exist at this time. The initial
diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors
that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operation.STOP
Repair: It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. Also,
recheck if the diagnostic indicator is illuminated for this diagnostic code. If the cause of the diagnostic code is
not found, replace the ECM. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".
