COLD OPEN
INTERIOR LANFORD HOSPITAL
The Conner family sits in the waiting room of a hospital.
DAN, JACKIE, BECKY, DJ, DARLENE, and HARRIS sit in a row of
chairs. Each is on their phone except DAN. He is reading an
automotive magazine and eating chips. DARLENE'S son MARK
and DJ's daughter MARY are strewn across several chairs in
a manifest of boredom.
BECKY
(In waitress outfit from
job at Mexican
restaurant)
Dad, is this going to take much
longer? I have to get to work.
DARLENE
(Looking up from her
phone, wearing a closed
trench coat.)
You better get going Becks, those
margaritas aren't going to serve,
or drink, themselves.
BECKY
Doesn't your shift of cleaning out
ashtrays and having your ass
grabbed at the casino start soon?
BECKY pulls the trench coat off of DARLENE'S shoulder to
reveal her gaudy and revealing casino uniform.
HARRIS
(to herself, loudly,
while staring at phone)
Such strong female role models...
JACKIE
You know they're right, Dan. It's
been over four hours since they
started Roseanne's knee surgery.
Don't you think we should have
heard something by now?
DAN
Yeah, maybe you're right. I'll ask
the nurse.
DAN begins to get up but is grabbed by JACKIE.
JACKIE
Are you sure you want to ask, Dan?
You know, I used to interface
one-on-one with medical
professionals all the time when...
DAN, BECKY, HARRIS, DJ, DARLENE AND
JACKIE (IN UNISON)
When I was a cop.
JACKIE
When I was a cop, yes! And what I
learned from my experience on the
force is how to talk to medical
professionals in a way that cuts
straight through the jibber-jabber
to get the critical update, Dan.
MARK and MARY begin laugh at the phrase "jibber-jabber"
MARK
(to MARY)
Jibber-Jabber?
MARY
(to MARK)
Jabber.
JACKIE
(to DAN)
They're more likely to respond to
a former emergency professional
and give me a real update then to
"nonessentials" like yourself.
DAN
Be my guest.
DAN gestures to the nurses station. JACKIE gets up,
hyperextends her posture, and saunters over to the nurses
station. As she approaches she raises her fist in
solidarity with the nurse.
JACKIE
(to NURSE)
Nurse...uh, Gehry, former Officer
Marjorie Harris, formerly of the
Lanford P.D. I'm gonna need an
update about my sister Roseanne
Conner's knee surgery, STAT.
NURSE
(stern, maybe a little
less-than-politely)
We'll get you an update as soon as
there is one, former Officer
Harris.
JACKIE taps her fingers on the nurse's station a few times,
smiles, raises her fist to the nurse again, and thanks her
for her service. She returns to her seat.
DAN
Any update, former Officer Krupke?
DJ
(interrupting)
Dad, theres the doctor.
DAN stands up as the doctor approaches. As he does he wipes
his shirt of crumbs that have accumulated during the wait.
DAN
(nervous but jovial)
Well, Doc, you're still in one
piece so I'm guessing Roseanne's
still knocked out?
As the Doctor approaches, the family can tell something is
wrong by the look on his face.
DAN (CONT'D)
Is everything okay, Doc? Where's
my wife?
DOCTOR
Mr. Conner, I'm so sorry to have
to tell you this...
The family begins to react to the news.
...Roseanne had a severe reaction
to the anesthesia.
DARLENE
What are you saying?
BECKY
No.
DOCTOR
She didn't make it.
DAN
What'd you say?
DOCTOR
I'm so sorry.
DAN
There must be some mistake. Oh,
No! Rosie, No.
DAN shakes his head in disbelief. This is the woman who he
has been with for nearly his entire life. As his children
begin to cry and grab one another the weight of Roseanne's
death begins to take hold of him. HARRIS runs out of the
room. DARLENE grabs hold of MARK. DJ holds MARY's hand.
DAN, stammering, tries to hold his own tears for a moment,
but can't for very long. He turns his face toward his
family and grabs onto BECKY who is standing the closest.
The family embraces each other as they weep.
The scene fades to black. We hear the iconic sound of a
harmonica playing that recognizable blues riff. The white
lettered ROSEANNE title screen is displayed.
We cut to an empty kitchen as the theme song plays. The
camera circles around the table. No one arrives for dinner.
As the song ends and we expect to hear Roseanne's trademark
laugh, we hear nothing at all.
COMMERCIAL BREAK
ACT I:
INTERIOR: CONNERS' KITCHEN
DARLENE and BECKY are sitting at the kitchen table,
surrounded by papers. DJ is looking for food in the fridge.
DARLENE
OK, DJ and Mary will pick you up
from the airport tomorrow and take
you straight to the funeral...
Family is indeed a lighted beacon
home, Jer. See ya.
Darlene hangs up the phone.
Captain Jerry is taking the redeye
from Anchorage. He's supposed to
get in at 6:00 tomorrow morning.
BECKY
God, it's been like six years
since he spoke to Mom. How did he
sound?
DARLENE
(imitating stoicism)
Like Ernest Hemmingway. Serious,
and true from years at sea...Also
a little stoned I think.
BECKY
He and mom always loved those
Ernest movies. Too bad Jerry
became such a burnout.
BECKY takes a drink from a can of beer.
He could have really done
something with his life.
DJ
I can't believe he and mom never
made up.
DARLENE
Yeah. But on the plus side at
least he didn't have to witness
Mom's Trump years.
BECKY
True, but he was the only one
around to suffer through her Obama
years.
DARLENE
I wonder if we'll be able to get a
copy of her long-form death
certificate.
DAN walks into the kitchen with MARK and MARY.
DAN
Okay, so I think everything is
taken care of.
MARK
(wearing a black leotard
and black boa)
Mom, I've been practicing an
interpretive dance number to
perform at Grandma Rosie's
funeral.
DARLENE
That's great. I wanted to dance on
her grave too when I was your age.
DAN
Hey Darlene, did you call everyone
in your mother's rolodex?
MARY playfully runs over and grabs the rolodex and starts
to spin it.
DARLENE
I did. There are two stone tablets
of numbers in the basement I still
need to call but I'm saving those
until after lunch.
JACKIE walks in carrying a handful of subs and talking on
the phone to BEVERLY, her mother and roommate.
JACKIE
(into phone)
Yes Mother. I told you I'm going
to sleep here and will pick you up
in the morning before the service.
I know, yes...I...I, Mom! Mom!
JACKIE, unable to get a word in edgewise, begins to yell.
Mom! Mom! Mom! I got to go. I got
to go. DJ's choking! BYE!
JACKIE hangs up the phone and exasperatedly mouth whispers
the words "IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN YOU" at the phone before
composing herself.
How's everyone holding up?
JACKIE puts her arm around MARY.
If anyone needs to talk I have
some experience in grief
counseling as part of my training
as a life couch.
DARLENE
(sarcastically)
Aunt Jackie, when did you become a
life coach? Becky, did you know
that Aunt Jackie is a life coach?
BECKY
Yeah, Darlene. She mentions it
literally all the time.
DARLENE
(to JACKIE but also to
everyone)
I think we're all set for
tomorrow. The Reverend is going to
meet us there. He said we can say
a few words to eulogize her if we
want.
BECKY
(writing on a notepad)
You know, it's amazing. I've
written this speech in my head so
many times over the years, but
now, when its finally time to
deliver, I just can't find the
words.
BECKY begins to cry. DAN walks over and kisses her head.
DAN
(to DARLENE)
Did you talk to Jerry?
DARLENE
Yeah. He's flying out tonight. DJ
and Mary are going to pick him up
in the morning.
JACKIE
(nervously)
You spoke to Jerry? Did he say
anything about Andy? Has he spoken
to him?
DARLENE
He didn't say.
DAN
It's good Jerry's coming. Roseanne
would have wanted that.
DAN cracks open a beer and walks into the living room.
DARLENE follows.
DARLENE
So...Dad. How are you feeling? Do
you need any grief counseling from
Aunt Jackie? You know, she took a
course...
DAN
(chuckles lightly at
Darlene's remark before
turning serious)
I'm feeling pretty lost, Kiddo. I
really am.
DARLENE puts her hand on her dad's shoulders.
These were supposed to be our
golden years. Where we would sit
triumphantly and enjoy (he raises
his hands in jest as if surveying
a vast kingdom) all that we had
built together. Now it's over. I
feel like I've died too.
DAN puts his arm around DARLENE and brings her in.
I've been with your mother since I
was a kid. She took care of me. I
don't...
DAN sighs and shakes off the emotions.
How's Harris doing?
DARLENE
She's doing better, I guess. Her
and mom didn't have the best
relationship since we moved in
with you guys, so she is taking it
pretty hard.
A crash is heard in the kitchen. DARLENE goes to
investigate and sees MARK on the floor, the result of an
interpretive dance move gone awry.
DARLENE (CONT'D)
Alright, Stravinski. Enough
mourning for today.
DARLENE opens the freezer door to take out an old fashioned
ice pack for MARK. As she opens the circular top to fill it
with ice she notices something concealed in the pack. She
pulls it out to find the ziplock bag filled with
prescription pain pills that Roseanne hid in the ice pack
in Season 10 Episode 8.
COMMERCIAL BREAK
ACT II:
INTERIOR: DAN'S GARAGE
DAN is tinkering with a dismantled bike. DJ walks in.
DJ
Need a hand?
DAN
Sure.
DJ
I can't believe how much there is
to organize for a civilian
funeral.
DAN
Can you imagine how hard it would
be if we could afford one of those
fancy military funeral?
DJ
So there won't be a 21-gun
salutes?
DAN
No. Just Mark's dance routine.
Although there may be a few
protestors that show up.
BECKY joins DJ and DAN in the garage. She grabs a beer from
DAN's fridge and sits around the dismantled motorcycle.
DJ
(to Dan)
Did you know about the pills?
DAN
I thought she got rid of them. She
told me she had gotten rid of
them. I don't know if I really
believed her.
BECKY
Mark used to hide his stash around
the house too.
DAN
It's not the same, Becky.
BECKY does not respond but is clearly hurt by the comment.
DJ
And she had taken some before the
surgery?
DAN
I think so. I spoke to the
anesthesiologist, she thinks that
your mother must have, I don't
know, forgot or was scared to tell
the hospital she had taken them.
DJ
She did this to herself?
DAN
Yup.
DJ
That's...so stupid.
DAN
It is.
BECKY takes a drink.
BECKY
How many people in this family are
going to be killed by those
fucking pills.
BECKY puts her head on DJ's shoulders. Dan continues to
tinker with the motorcycle.
END SCENE
ESTABLISHING SHOT
OF AN AIRPORT.
INTERIOR DJ'S CAR
DJ is driving to the airport with his daughter MARY in the
backseat.
MARY
Dad, how is Uncle Jerry related to
you again?
DJ
He's my baby brother.
MARY
If he's your brother how come we
haven't seen him at any
Christmases or birthdays?
DJ
Because he took a job fishing on a
big boat in Alaska.
MARY
Why?
DJ
That's a story for when you're
older. Oh, there he is! Oh my god,
that beard.
DJ honks the horn and a large, bearded man enters the car.
He looks like a very granola lumberjack.
JERRY
Deeee Jayyyy CONNER! (mimics
airhorns). Time has aged you.
DJ
That can happen. Jerry, this is
your niece, Mary.
MARY
You smell like fish! ACH!
MARY begins to hold her nose.
JERRY
What a charming girl.
JERRY pulls out a vape pen and takes a pull.
DJ
(whispers, suspiciously)
Jerry, what is that? Is that...
JERRY
Just a pixie stick, DJ. (whispers)
Be cool man, my estranged mother
just died and I'm trying to
repress my emotions.
DJ nods as if completely understanding.
JERRY grabs DJ by the back of the neck in an affectionate
way.
MARY
(unable to hold her
breath much longer)
Open the window, dad!
DJ
Good idea.
JERRY
Yeah, even I was starting to smell
it.
JERRY takes another pull of his vape pen.
END SCENE
ESTABLISHING SHOT
OF A FUNERAL HOME:
DAN, BECKY, DARLENE, MARK, AND JACKIE ARE DRESSED IN
FUNERAL ATIRE. THEY ARE STANDING AROUND A SMALL WAITING
ROOM, WAITING FOR THE SERVICE TO START. REVEREND CHOWDER
WALKS IN.
REVEREND
Dan, I am so sorry for your loss.
DAN
Thank you, Reverend.
REVEREND
Such a tragedy. Please let me know
if there is anything you need.
REVEREND shakes Dan's hand and walks away.
ROSEANNE's mother BEVERLY and JACKIE arrive.
BEVERLY
(shrill, as usual)
Oh, what an absolutely awful day.
A mother should never have to bury
a child! It should be the other
way around!
JACKIE
Well, don't give up hope on me,
Ma!
DAN
Hi Bev.
BEVERLY and DAN give each other a sincere and compassionate
hug. The rest of the family greets JACKIE and BEVERLY.
HARRIS walks into the room.
DARLENE
Harris, where's your dad?
HARRIS
He didn't want to intrude. He's
waiting inside the hall.
DAN
That's ridiculous. Go tell him to
come here.
DARLENE
Are you sure?
DAN
David is family. Roseanne loved
him like a son. Or maybe a
daughter.
HARRIS leaves the room to get DAVID. DJ walks into the room
with JERRY.
JERRY
Dad.
JERRY walks over briskly to embraces his father.
JERRY (CONT'D)
I'm sorry we're having to see each
other under such circumstances.
This isn't how I imagined our
reconciliation.
DAN
It doesn't smell like I imagined
either.
DAN looks at his son, who is large and has his build. He
grabs his son by the face, making his hand through a
fistful of beard.
JERRY
I'm sorry it's been so long. I
should have been here...
DAN
You're here now. That's what's
important.
DAN and JERRY share a deep hug. As the two men embrace, DAN
speaks to JACKIE over JERRY's shoulder.
DAN (CONT'D)
(to JACKIE)
Jackie, do you have any perfume or
curry or radon in your purse for
the smell?
DAN and JERRY let go of each other. JACKIE takes out an
aerosol can of body spray.
JERRY
Aunt Jackie!
JACKIE hugs JERRY as she simultaneously starts spraying him
down with the spray.
JACKIE
Jerry! You look so...free. So
free.
JERRY
Thank you!
JACKIE
Hey, any word from Andy? Have you
spoken to him? He hasn't called me
or responded to any of my letters.
JERRY
I think he is okay. You know,
considering. I was able to speak
to him to tell him about mom and
he asked me to give his love to
everyone.
JACKIE
To me?
JERRY
To everyone. I just don't think he
is ready to talk yet. But he will
be.
DAVID enters the room with Harris.
DAVID
(has clearly been
crying)
Mr. Conner.
DAVID goes to shake DAN's hand. DAN reciprocates. As he
does DAVID begins to dramatically cry, embarrassing HARRIS.
DARLENE pulls DAVID in for a hug.
REVEREND
(reentering)
We're about to begin. Oh lord,
(takes a sniff, looks in Jerry's
direction) I think the LOX have
gone bad?
DAN
(to his family)
OKAY, guys, huddle up.
The family comes together in a circle.
This is a real crappy hand we've
been dealt. And we've been dealt a
lot of really crappy hands. But we
have each other, and that's all
that matters. We are going to get
through this. Because we're
family.
The shot lingers on Jackie who is thinking about her
imprisoned son, Andy.
END SCENE
INTERIOR: FUNERAL HALL
MARK is performing an elaborate yet amateurish interpretive
dance. In the seats are characters from throughout
Roseanne's life that have come to pay their respects. MARK
strikes a pose as he finishes his routine and waits for an
applause that never comes. Finally...
JERRY
Go Mark! Yeah! That's my nephew!
REVEREND
Thank you Mark for that
interesting...display of talent.
Now, to say a few words on behalf
of Roseanne's children, her
daughter, Darlene Conner Healey.
DARLENE
I loved my mother. But sometimes,
if I'm going to be honest, that
was hard for me to do. She was a
difficult, stubborn, and
frustrating woman. And she did
what she wanted. Whether you liked
it or not.
I remember when I was a difficult,
stubborn, frustrating teenager,
around the same age my own
difficult, stubborn, frustrating
daughter is now, I would fantasize
about the day I would leave her
house. Don't tell Harris this, but
when I was just a little older
than she is now I escaped. And in
escaping I left behind my
hus...Harris and Mark's father,
David, to actually live with my
parents while I went to school in
Chicago. Not too long after
leaving David and I broke up...for
the first time, and I, stubbornly,
demanded my mother kick David out
of the house.
DAVID
Hey!
DARLENE
But she wouldn't do it. She told
me that you don't turn your back
on family. I always remembered
that.
Camera shows close up of JERRY and JACKIE, obviously
reacting emotionally to the story considering their
respective estrangements. DAVID is a mess of tears and
snot, which sort of embarrasses HARRIS.
The point is my mother counted a
lot more than just her family as
family. And she would do anything
for the people she let into our
family. Even if they voted for
Hillary.
JACKIE chortles through tears.
My mother was by no means perfect.
All of my sib...actually, probably
everyone in this room probably has
a dozen stories about my mom being
brash or rude or dismissive or
closed-minded or racist to them.
There is a close-up of Roseanne's muslim neighbors to whom
she was racist toward but also very kind in Season 10
Episode 7.
LEON
(from a pew)
She still owes me money!
DARLENE
(con't)
But despite those traits, she was
soft, and kind, and compassionate
on the inside, and would go out of
her way to help when you needed
it.
I'm sorry this had to happen so
unexpectedly. I love you so much,
Mom.
As DARLENE walks away from the podium her son, MARK, once
again begins his lavishly amateur interpretive dance.
JERRY
Alright, go Mark!
COMMERCIAL BREAK
ACT III:
INTERIOR: CONNER HOUSE
The house is filled with people paying respects. CRYSTAL
walks in with a basket of chocolate covered fruit.
CRYSTAL
Oh, Darlene. What a beautiful
ceremony, sweetie. And such a
moving eulogy.
DAN comes over and hugs CRYSTAL.
DAN
Why, Chrystal, is that an Edible
Arrangement in your hand?
CRYSTAL
Sure is, Dan! I know it's the only
way you'll eat fruit.
DAN
These are expensive! You really
must have loved Roseanne.
CRYSTAL
You know I did, Dan.
We pan to a conversation between DJ and Jerry
DJ
So how long do you think you're
going to stay?
JERRY
I still haven't decided. If I want
I can take a 6 month contract, but
I'd have to be in Nome on Tuesday.
I'm not sure if I really want to
go back on the waters.
DJ
I thought you liked the, what were
you going on about? The majesty of
the...
JERRY
Majesty of the open sea. Yes, Yes.
The open sea really is very quite
majestic. Certainly more majestic
than the abandoned malls we have
in Lanford. It's just...it always
smells bad. And the crew is made
up almost entirely of Pilipino men
that don't seem to like me very
much.
DJ
How do you know? Do you speak
Filipino?
JERRY
Their language is called Tagalog,
but no. They told me that in
English. Pretty directly,
actually. It really hurt my
feelings.
DJ
Well, if you do want to stay here
for a while you can stay with me
and Mary until Geena comes home.
JERRY
Thanks, DJ. Let me think about it.
We cut to DAN who is still greeting guests. He is
approached by LEON.
LEON
Now, you poor, handsome, newly
single man. I know this hurts, but
in time you'll learn to move on.
DAN
Thanks, Leon.
LEON
Oh my pleasure. And, while I have
you here, and I do mean
this...Roseanne owed me $125.
DAN
Oh, Leon. I'm so sorry for your
loss. But, and I do mean this...I
think in time you'll learn to move
on.
INTERIOR: DARLENE'S OLD ROOM
DARLENE walks in on HARRIS sitting on her bed.
DARLENE
Got a minute?
HARRIS
I guess.
DARLENE
I'm sorry this hasn't been easier
for you.
HARRIS
What?
DARLENE
Life. Generally. Take your pick.
But this week has been
really...sad and awful.
HARRIS
I'm not sad. I'm angry. I'm really
angry.
DARLENE
At what?
HARRIS
At Grandma. She shouldn't have
taken those pills and she
shouldn't have lied to her
doctors. We depended on her and
she did something stupid and
selfish and left all of us here to
clean up after her.
DARLENE
You're right. You're absolutely
right.
You know, I remember Becky saying
almost the exact same thing to me,
actually on this same bed, the
night of Uncle Mark's funeral.
HARRIS
How did Aunt Becky get over it?
DARLENE
She didn't. That anger may always
be there. But so are a lot of
other feelings and memories. I
wish you had a little more time
with her, to get to know her.
Cause she loved you. She made a
mistake, one that there isn't a
way to come back from. I hope one
day you can forgive her.
DAVID and MARK walks through the door.
DAVID
I thought I'd find you here.
DARLENE
Avoiding my father?
DAVID
I don't want to push my luck.
DAVID walks over to his daughter and the family sits
silently for a moment. DARLENE puts her hand on DAVID's.
MARK
Dad, what did you think of my
dance and Grandma Rosie's funeral?
DAVID
It was great. I hope you dance
that beautifully at my own funeral
one day.
MARK is pleased by his father's comment.
ESTABLISHING SHOT
OF CONNER HOME:
INTERIOR: CONNER FAMILY LIVING
DAN
(to his children)
Hey guys, can I talk to you all
for a minute.
DARLENE, BECKY, DJ, and JERRY gather around DAN.
There's no easy way of saying
this...but I am so proud of you
all.
BECKY
Why isn't that easy for him to
say?
JERRY
Emotional repression.
JERRY takes a pull of his vape pen.
DAN
You all really stepped up and I
don't think...I don't think I
could have gotten through this
without you.
DARLENE
We love you, Dad. Of course.
DAN
Look, your mother had a life
insurance policy, a small one,
nothing crazy, but enough for me
to rent a little apartment for
myself near the abandoned mall and
to give each of you kids a few
thousand bucks. Not too much.
DARLENE
Why would you need a little
apartment?
DAN
I'm going to move out of here.
DARLENE
Why would you do that? This is
your home.
DAN
Because, Darlene, every inch of
this house is filled with a
thousand memories of your mother.
This was our home together for
more than 40 years. I don't want
to live here without her. It
doesn't feel right.
DJ
So what are you going to do with
the house?
DAN
(to Darlene)
I was thinking maybe you and the
kids could live here. Create some
new memories.
DARLENE
Wow. Um. Are you sure?
DAN
Yeah, Becky you have an apartment
and DJ has the house. Jerry lives
on a boat in the tundra.
JERRY
No, I'm moving in with DJ!
DAN is pleased with the news that JERRY is staying in
Lanford.
DAN
Darlene, I think it makes sense
for you to have it. But I'm
keeping the garage though. So stay
out of there, and don't drink my
beers.
DARLENE
Fine, but I'm replacing the couch.
DAN
As if you had a choice! That couch
is coming with me.
BECKY
Dad, this is very nice. But I can
barely afford rent on my salary
and Darlene gets our house?
DARLENE
Why don't you come live here with
us?
BECKY looks suspicious.
BECKY
Really? You'd do that?
DARLENE
Yeah, the kids love you. I love
you.
BECKY
I suppose that could work. The two
of us, raising those kids
together. Haggard ol' mom and cool
Aunt Becks. Two strong women
making their way in the world!
DARLENE
Yeah. It will be like when Aunt
Jackie would stay over between
poor life decisions when we were
kids.
BECKY
Oh my god, I'm the Aunt Jackie.
END OF SCENE
COMMERCIAL BREAK
INTERIOR: CONNER KITCHEN
Several months have gone by since Roseanne's funeral.
HARRIS is on a new, modern looking couch playing on her
phone as MARK plays a Dance Dance Revolution type of game
in front of the TV. The front door opens and MARY runs
inside and over to MARK. DJ and JERRY come in.
HARRIS
Uncle Jerry, how do you still
smell like fish?
JERRY
Practice, I suppose.
DJ
(holding several pizzas)
Harris, where's your mom?
HARRIS
She's in the kitchen with Aunt
Becky.
DJ brings the pizzas into the kitchen. There is a knock on
the door. It is DAN. HARRIS does not answer the door
despite being closest. DARLENE walks in from the kitchen.
DARLENE
Harris, are you deaf?
HARRIS
What?
DARLENE opens the door for her father.
DAN
Why isn't anyone answering the
door?
DARLENE
That's a fair question, but why
are you knocking?
DAN
It's your house now, Darlene. I
want to respect that. Is David
here?
DARLENE
No, he just dropped the kids off.
You just missed him.
DAN
(with a smile)
Aw shucks.
DAN walks into the kitchen. JERRY is now playing the Dance
Dance Revolution game as MARK and MARY watch. JACKIE and
BEVERLY arrive at the house.
BEVERLY
Oh Darlene, I just love what you
have done with this place. I've
been trying to get Jackie to
redecorate our apartment for ages.
Out with the old, in with the new,
I keep saying!
JACKIE
I can think of an old things we
could throw out that might make it
a bit more...pleasant, mother.
As JERRY vigorously dances he begins to fiddle with
something in his pocket. He pulls out a cell phone and
takes a call mid-dance.
JERRY
YES, I'll accept the charges...
Hey man! How's art thou? Yeah,
sorry I'm out of breath. I'm in
the middle of a high energy techno
dance. Yeah, oh sure, I suppose I
could stop.
JERRY stops dancing. He is out of breath and whispers "it's
Andy" to the family. JACKIE's face changes.
Are you okay? Oh good, yeah man.
Hey, your mom is here, do you want
to...yeah, you should totally say
hi! Yeah, she wants to speak to
you.
A sweaty JERRY hands JACKIE the phone, which she puts to
her face and then immediately wipes it off because its full
of sweat.
JACKIE

JACKIE (CONT'D)
Call me anytime, I'll accept the
charges. Sure, I'll put some in
your commissary account. I have
the number. Okay. I love you.
JACKIE hangs up the phone and hands it back to Jerry.
DAN
How did he sound?
JACKIE
Good, fine. Like my Andy.
DARLENE yells from off camera
DARLENE
Alright everyone, we have the
cheapest pizza in town on the
table. Come and grab a slice
before it's gone.
The entire family runs to the kitchen. They are setting the
table, grabbing condiments and drinks, etc. The camera pans
around the table, this time with DARLENE sitting at the
head of the table. As the conversation begins to fade lower
and lower we are left with the sound of Darlene laughing.
The image fades to black.
