PROPOSED OF SEWERAGE DESIGN

INTRODUCTION
Elegent Co. Sdn. Bhd. Were appointed by the client to be a consultant in
designing sewerage system.
This report is to obtain the planning approvals from the Department of Sewerage
Services (JPP) based on the location of the existing STP as required by the Batu Pahat
Urban Council
BACKGROUND OF PROJECT

1.) Description of Domestic Sewage Reserve

All streams from the last tract of the project are channeled to the existing
pedestrian street the front before being directed directly to the sewage treatment
plant.
2.) The proposed pipeline for the proposed reticulated system is 225 mm (9 inches)
VCP Sewer Pipe will drain the sewage through gravity flow with available tunnels at
each intersection, change of direction, pipe size change, gradient change at maximum
distance of 90 m. All building materials, minimum depth, gradient and sewage flow
based on the latest design guide by JPP / Malaysia Standard MS 1228.
CRITERIA DESIGN

1. Minimum Self-Cleaning Velocity = 0.91 m/s

Maximum allowable velocity = 4.0 m/s

2. Average Flow Rate = 225 liter/capital/ day

3. Type of Pipe - “VCP pipe” approved by JPP

- Minimum dia size pipe 225 mm.
4. Sewege pipes are designed for full flow of pipes.
5. The Manning Formula is used to determine the maximum velocity allowed by the
pipe :-

V = 1R2/3S1/2
N
Where
V = Pipe velocity (m/sec)
R= Cutting Area
Cutting Perimeter
S = Gradient Pipe
n = Pipeline Coefficient (0.014)

Velocity and Pipeline Design

For “Manning” Formula velocity equation used:-

V = 1R2/3S1/2
n
Where
R= 3.142D2
4 x 3.142 x (0.225)2
n= 0.009
S = 1/ 200

Therefore the velocity; V = 1(0.056)2/3(1/200)1/2

0.009
V = 1.15 m /sec

The velocity is between the allowed range ( 0.91m/s – 4.0 m/s), therefore
Cutting is satisfactory
For pipeline capacity equation :-
Q = VA -------- (1)
A = (3.142 d2) / 4
A = (3.14) x (0.225)2 / 4
A = 0.04 m2
V = 1.15 m/ s ------------- Manning Formula

Q = (0.04) x (1.15) = 0.046 m3 / s

= 46 liter / sec

Pipe Capacity = 46 liter/s > Peak Breakout Capacity = 5.593 liter / s
