b) Organize writing to include a beginning, middle, and end for narrative and expository writing.

Student Considerations: The teacher will accommodate special needs learners by creating a
learning environment consistent with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. Students
with specific challenges will be accommodated consistent with Individualized Instructional Plan
(IEP or 504 Plan) requirements, and through the use of Assistive Technology (AT) devices as
required.
PROCEDURES:
The Beginning (a.k.a. Anticipatory Set):
Review of hand stories and how last week we used the graphic organizer to began to
format the story. Hand back their graphic organizers.
Direct Instruction (mini-lesson): Using the graphic organizer on stretching sentences, we will
instruct and demonstrate how to transfer the story onto paper for their the first draft.
Independent Practice: Students will draft their story using the graphic organizer on stretching
sentences.
The End (a.k.a. Closing): Have students share their drafts, collect drafts, and summarize what we
learned
