*Summary The class will be reading an article and be finding the main idea of the article.
Objective I can read an article and determine the main idea and summarize the article.
As a warm-up, as a class the students will be going over their rapid word recognition chart.
Anticipatory Set The first time is the teacher will lead by reading the word and allowing the students to read
the words. After the first time through, the teacher will then pick one or two students to lead
the class through the charts.
The teacher will start off by having a short discussion about the article from the day before.
Teach Lesson /
That article was about carpentry. The class will be continuing the reading from the day

before. The teacher will ask what they learned about carpentry.
The class will be reading the article together as a group. All the students will be given a
Guided Practice
chance to read. The students will be reading a paragraph at a time to allow the class to
have discussions about what is being read.
After each paragraph is read, the students will mark the important information. For the

main topic or idea, the students will circle the sentence. For the detail the students will

put a star by the sentence or underline. Then last, the student will underline twice any
extra information.
Closure Before the students go back to class, the teacher will have the student summarize in
their own words what they read from the article.
The students will be assessed throughout the lesson thorough out questions while
Evaluation reading.
*Assessment/Rubrics On Friday, the students will be given one minute to see how many words they can reas
from the rapid word recognition chart
