Getting Started with StruM.I.S.NET


Introduction
The full StruM.I.S.NET product is a purpose-written Estimating and complete Management Information System (MIS) designed to meet the specific
needs of the steel industry.
It provides management access to all the information produced at every stage of a steelwork contract from tendering, through procurement to
manufacturing, enabling monitoring and control.
StruM.I.S.NET is an easy to learn, easy to use solution, which enables the user to efficiently and accurately process all contract related information.
The StruM.I.S.NET product is available as an “Estimating only licence”, an “MIS licence” or a “Full licence” (comprising both products). There is also a
licence specifically designed for “Steel Suppliers”.
Estimating allows you to quickly produce detailed cost Estimates to suit a number of different pricing methodologies , including drawing take-off, bill of
quantities and unit pricing.
StruM.I.S.NET is built using the very latest Windows technology (including the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and SQL Server 2005) and the software
has a familiar, easy to learn user interface and integrates with other Windows applications such as Microsoft Excel and Word.

About this Guide


This Quick Start Guide provides instructions to help you set up and use StruM.I.S.NET.

Installing the Software


Multi-User Environment Installation
A Multi-User environment consists of a Server and one or more Client computers.

1. Install the Server installation of StruM.I.S.NET on the server. A note should be made of the Server Name and IP Address.
Note: We strongly recommend that a Static IP Address is used on the Server.
2. Install the Client installation on each computer that will run StruM.I.S.NET.

Server

Client Computers

Single User Environment Installation


A Single User environment only has one computer. This computer stores the database and the StruM.I.S.NET application.
For this type of environment, use the Server installation.

Stand Alone Computer

Software Installation
1. Insert the StruM.I.S.NET DVD into the DVD Drive.

2. The StruM.I.S.NET installer should launch automatically.

Note: If the installer fails to launch, open My Computer from your desktop or start menu, select your DVD Drive and run the Setup.exe file.

3. The Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for StruM.I.S.NET screen is displayed. Click the Next button.

4. The Customer Information screen is displayed. Enter your name and company in the User Name and Company Name fields.
Click the Next button.

5. The Setup Type screen is displayed.


 If you are installing on the Server in a Multi-User environment or to a Stand Alone machine in a Single-User environment, select the
Server radio button and click the Next button.
 If you are installing on a Client machine in a Multi-User environment, select the Client radio button and click the Next button.

6. The Choose Destination Location screen is displayed. It is recommended that you install the application in the default folder. However, if you
want to install it to a different folder, click the Change button and select the folder from your computer. Click the Next button.

7. The Setup Status screen is displayed and the installation process begins.

8. If SQL Server is not installed on the computer, then SQL Server 2005 Express is automatically installed.

9. The Please Supply an Admin user password screen is displayed. An administrator account is automatically created in StruM.I.S.NET, enter a
password in the New password and Confirm new password fields and click the OK button. Make a note of the Admin password

10. When the installation has completed, the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen is displayed.
Click the Finish button to close the installer.

Software Activation

1. After installation is complete, the Software Activation screen is displayed.

2. Select the I accept the licence agreement radio button and click the Continue button.

3. The Activate Your Software screen is displayed. Enter your Name, Company and CD Key.

Note: The Company Name and CD Key you need to enter are in the documentation provided with your StruM.I.S.NET DVD.

4. Select Activate by e-mail or phone, or Activate Online and click the Continue button.

 Activate by Email or Phone.

1. The Activate by e-mail or phone screen is displayed.

2. Contact your local AceCad Office, Approved Agent, StruM.I.S. Support (UK) or StruM.I.S. Support (USA) to activate your software
quoting the Install ID at the top of the screen.

3. Enter the Licence Key provided and click the Activate button.

 Activate Online.

1. The Activate Online screen is displayed, enter your details.

2. As part of online activation, you may need to enter your Proxy Settings.
a) If you use a Proxy Server to connect to the internet, these details will automatically be retrieved from your internet
settings.
b) If you need to enter a User Name and Password to connect to the internet, you also need to enter them here.
c) Click the Test Web Connection button to ensure you have entered the correct details.

3. When you have entered your details and any proxy settings, click the Activate button to complete the activation.

4. If the software has been successfully activated, the Activation is Complete screen is displayed.
Click the Finished button to close the form.

5. If the software cannot be activated, the Activation Failed screen is displayed. This may mean you have incorrectly entered
something on a previous screen or you may need to contract local AceCad Office, Approved Agent, StruM.I.S. Support (UK) or
StruM.I.S. Support (USA). To check what you have entered click the Go Back button.

Logging In
1. Click on the Windows Start menu and select StruM.I.S.NET from the Programs or All Programs…AceCad…StruM.I.S.NET folder.

2. The Login screen is displayed. Enter the Username as admin, the Password you set during the installation process, and select the required
License Mode. This will either be Estimating, MIS or Full System, Production Console or Supplier.

If you are logging in to a Server in a Multi-User environment, you will need to enter the location of the database.
1. Click on Options >>.
2. Enter either the server’s name or IP address in the Server drop-down list.
Note: You can also view all computers with SQL Server 2005 installed by clicking the Find Servers button.
3. Select the Database from the drop-down list.
4. StruM.I.S .NET uses SQL Security by default, if you need to use Windows Authentication un-tick the SQL Security checkbox.

1. Click the OK button to login.

2. The Licence Agreement screen is displayed. Click the I Accept button to open StruM.I.S.NET.

Installing and Configuring System Settings


This section covers the setting up of StruM.I.S.NET, the Welcome screen and Setup Wizard.

Welcome

When you log in to StruM.I.S.NET for the first time, the Welcome screen is displayed.
The Welcome screen shows
 Quick Start Tutorials - explain how to perform certain tasks in StruM.I.S.NET.
 Recently Used - allows you to quickly return to an area you were previously using before closing the application.
 Common Tasks – allows you to quickly create a new Estimate or Enquiry.
To prevent the Welcome screen displaying each time you open StruM.I.S.NET, select the Don’t show me this again checkbox at the bottom of
the screen.

Setup Wizard
Until you have completed it the Setup Wizard is automatically displayed when you close the Welcome Screen. It can also be accessed from the
Tools menu.
The Setup Wizard automatically installs the default system settings for:-
 Languages  Fittings  Document Revision Code
 Currency  Supplied Lengths  Document Transmittal Reason
 Default Measurement Units, Metric or  Extras and Extra Groups  Production Workstations and Rules
Imperial  Estimate Subsections  Production Stage
 Default Weight Units, KG or LB, Tonne  Estimate Bill of Quantities Sets  Production Process
or Ton  Item Locations  Production Templates
 Default Price Units, Steel and Non Steel  Item Cross References  Tax Codes
 Cost Codes and Cost Centres  Suppliers  Users and Roles
 Steel Section Items and Grades.  Document Type
 Labour Usages  Document Status

1. The Welcome to the StruM.I.S.NET Setup Wizard screen is displayed. Click the Next button.

2. The Select a Region screen is displayed, Select a Region from the drop-down list. Click the Next button.
The Region you select determines the Regional Settings and the data you can import in steps 3 and 4.

3. The Configure Regional Settings screen is displayed. Settings are populated based on the region you selected in step 2.

You can change any of the settings using the drop-down lists.
Click the Next button.

4. The Select Installation Required screen is displayed. Select the Installation Type from the drop-down list.

 Compact - sets up the regional settings without installing any files.

 Custom - sets up the regional settings and allows the user to select which files to install.

 Full - sets up the regional settings and installs all files including Steel Section Unit Prices and Suppliers.

 Typical - sets up the regional settings and installs all files excluding Steel Section Unit Prices and Suppliers.

Note: If you are performing a Custom installation, only the items ticked will be installed.

5. Click the Next button, this will import the items you have selected.

6. The Complete Setup Wizard screen is displayed. Click the Finish button to begin installing the regional settings and any files you have
chosen to import.

7. When the Setup Wizard has completed, StruM.I.S.NET is restarted.
