adults with disabilities and as a parent will share insights into transition
planning, services and the real world challenges of parenting a young adult
with a disability.

Director Greg Fenton, DHS and Person Centered Planning Panel
Director Fenton will share the Division of Developmental Disabilities’ continued vision for person centered
planning. A panel consisting of an advocate, family member, service provider and an independent service
coordination agency will share their experiences and efforts to work together to fulfill the potential of the
person centered planning process. We will hear from the individual and family perspective how person
centered planning can help deliver the services people want and need. Q and A to follow.

“State Medicaid Changes Impacting People with Disabilities”
Kristin Hartsaw and Sherri Schneider
Recently there have been a lot of changes to Medicaid processes happening at the state level, which are
affecting how individuals with disabilities and families are dealing with benefits. Listen to two experts,
Sherri Schneider, Family Benefits Solutions, and Kristin Hartsaw, DuPage Federation, discuss some of
the changes to Medicaid including redetermination processes, online portals, AABD vs ACA Medicaid
categories, Medicaid Managed Care and more. Learn how losing your child’s Medicaid could lose
waiver services!

Presented by Emily Colson
What happens when we choose to live a big life, even in the midst of significant
disability? Join Emily Colson, popular speaker and author of the award winning
book Dancing with Max, as she shares her journey with her son Max, who is
25 years old and diagnosed with autism. After years of isolation, held hostage
by autism, Emily made a decision that would change the direction of Max’s life, her own life, and
those in the community. Come and be inspired by the creative ways Emily has engaged both Max,
and the greater community. Emily is sure to make you laugh, let you cry, and ultimately help us
all live a big life!
