TOP 3 PLACES TO GO TO:
GUYAM ISLAND

Guyam Island is one of the three islands located in the Surfing

Capital of the Philippines, Siargao. It is one of the three popular
islands that are visited in Siargao. It is just across the Patrick s on
the Beach Resort situated in the town of General Luna.

It is an islet that has a small stretch of powdery-white sand and

dotted with coconut trees. It also has interesting coral rock
formations that are perfect for snorkelling. The rest of the island is
battered with rocks. A few meters away from the island, tourists can
enjoy surfing and swimming.
CLOUD 9

In everyday parlance, on Cloud 9 means feeling elated, on top of the world,

but for surfers it s more than this. Cloud 9 is the name of the most famous wave
in the Philippines, and Siargao Island is regularly rated as one of the top 10 surf
sites in the world. That alone was enough to make me book the succession of
flights — two days in total of travelling — which would ultimately bring me to
Siargao.
THE BOULEVARD

The Boulevard can be serious fun when it gets going. A meeting place for the
local community by day and Karaoke chaos by night. There are some great local
BBQ restaurants here especially Lay Lays which is extremely popular with
locals and foreigners. Around 10pm the Karaoke machines come on and people
will stay here all night to howl at the moon. There are many cheap bars and this
is a great place to take in the local atmosphere, watch the sunset and just hang
out with friends. During surf competitions and local festivities there are often
bands or Dj s performing on the stage and the whole area becomes packed with
people enjoying themselves.

TOP 3 THINGS TO DO:
Surfing

Only experienced surfers, however, take on Cloud 9. If

you re still learning the basics, there are smaller waves to
the west of Cloud 9 that you can try out. You may also want
to schedule your trip on April or May, when the waves are a
little milder.
Island Hopping

Also worth checking out: the three white-sand islets off the coast of
General Luna. And the easiest and quickest way to visit them is via a
half-day boat tour.

First up is Naked Island, a 200-meter-long sandbar, save for some

hard corals and sea shells, the island is bare. You won t see any
trees or structures, so it s perfect for lazing around. It s also great
for swimming, as the surrounding waters are shallow and still.
Snorkelling

The snorkelling like either close to shore off Siargao island

or just off one of the other, smaller ... Luna are not that
impressive for snorkeling but if you consider the island
hopping activity you will enjoy snorkeling in different
locations.
