decisions when selecting subjects for the next academic year. Do note that the information in this document is drawn from the latest UOL Programme Regulations which
can be found online at www.londoninternational.ac.uk or http://www.londoninternational.ac.uk/sites/default/files/regulations/2016/progregs_emfss-new_16-17.pdf. It is
more updated than the information on the SIM Global Education website or the SIM promotional brochures.

Important Notes

1. Pre-requisites, Co-requisites
 Students must check the pre-requisites of the compulsory courses in your degrees. A pre-requisite is a specified course that must be passed or exempted before you
permitted to attempt another particular course. Students cannot take the advanced unit if you have not passed the pre-requisite. (Eg. EC1002 Intro to economics
and MT105A must be passed before you take on FN3092 Corporate finance.). Hence it is important to plan ahead wisely.
 Some degrees require students to take on certain compulsory courses in the 1st and 2nd year in order to complete the degree within three years. Eg, in the BSc Information Systems
& Management (BIM), you must complete IS1060 in Year 1 in order to take on IS2062 and IS2138 in Year 2, in order to take on IS3139 and IS3159 in Year 3. Once you fail
IS1060 in Year 1, it will take you 4 years to complete the BIM degree. Once you fail IS2138 in Year 2, you will need an extra year to complete the BIM degree.
 You must pass or have been granted APL for a total of two 100 courses before you are allowed to take any 200 or 300 courses.

 Some Level 200/300 units have both a pre-requisite and a co-requisite. Co-requisites can be taken concurrently. (e.g. FN3092 Corporate Finance is a co-requisite
for FN3023 Investment management, which also has a pre-requisite, FN1024 Principles of banking and finance. If you have fulfilled the pre-requisite for
Investment Management, you are only allowed to take Investment Management after or at the same time as Corporate Finance).
 New co-requisites in 2016:
o You can now only take EC1002 Introduction to Economics at the same time as or after ST104A Statistics 1 and either MT105A Mathematics 1 or MT1174
Calculus.
o You can now only take EC2020 Elements of Econometrics at the same time as ST104B and MT105B (co-requisites) and AFTER you have passed the pre-
requisites of EC1002 Intro to Economics and ST104A Statistics 1 and MT105A Mathematics 1 or MT1174 Calculus.
o Students who are repeating EC1002 and EC2020 are recommended to have these co-requisites although UOL will allow a resit without the co-requisites.

2. Line 12 of selected degrees allows students to place a 5th Level 100 unit as an alternative to a Level 200/300 unit. Bear in mind that Level 100 courses have less
weightage when it comes to the classification of honours. Do consider carefully whether you should take a 5th Level 100 unit at Line 12 of your degree. Your degree
structure allows a choice of 4 or 5 Level 100 units. This applies to the following degrees:
 BSc Business &Management (BZM)
 BSc Economics (BSE)
 BSc Economics & Finance (BEF)
 BSc Information Systems & Management (BIM)
 BSc International Relations (BIR)

3. Replacement units
At any point in the degree, if you have failed a paper which is an elective in the degree, you may replace it with another course. That replacement course would be a
new unit and students are only permitted a maximum of four new units unless you are at the graduating stage. UOL allows students to take 5 new full courses at the
final year provided they have no resits. Let’s say you have passed your Year 1. At Year 2, out of the 4, you managed to pass 3 and failed an elective. If you wish to
replace the failed unit with another elective, you may. It would mean that you have 4 new courses for Year 3 plus the replacement unit (new unit), which would make
it a total of 5 new courses for the Year 3 exam. Since there are no other resits except these 5 new units, you can take them at the same time in the final year. In terms
of course fees, you would have to pay the full fee for the replacement unit.

4. Advice on Economics courses; for those exempted from EC1002 Intro to Economics.
Generally, those who are exempted from EC1002 tend to find it more difficult to cope with further economics courses like EC2020, MN3028, EC2065 or EC2066.

EC2020 Elements of Econometrics - Students who opt for Econometrics should preferably have a solid background in mathematics and statistics, together with a good
understanding in economic principles and fundamentals. In terms of mathematical skills, students should possess a thorough understanding in basic fundamentals of
calculus (e.g. functions, limits, differentiation rules, logarithm rules and etc). A good grasp in basic statistical concepts such as random variable, population vs. sample,
sampling estimation, estimators, variance, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing & its related issues (e.g. Type I and Type II errors and significance level) is
required.
5. The following are possible Level 200/300 courses if you prefer quantitative modules:
- EC2066 Microeconomics (EC1002+MT105A) (MICRO)
- EC3099 Industrial Economics (MN3028 or EC2066)
- EC3120 Mathematics economics (EC2066+MT105B) (MATHE)
- MN3028 Managerial economics (EC1002+MT105A) (ME)
- MN3032 Management science methods (ST104A+MT105A) (MSM)
- MT2076 Management mathematics (ST104A+MT105A) (MM)
- At level 100, you can consider MT1173 Algebra (ALGA)

6. Transfer of UOL degree or mode

 Transfer for Local Students
 Local students who wish to transfer mode of study (eg. full-time to part-time) or transfer degree (BSc X to BSc Y or Graduate Diploma in A to B) will do the
transfer during the SSCE (Self-Service Class Enrolment) exercise. For continuing students, SSCE will take place around end August after the results are out.
Any transfer activated during SSCE will require students to accept a new student contract via SIMConnect. An email will be triggered to the student to accept
the e-contract by a stipulated timeline in order for the transfer to take effect.
 A transfer fee of $107 (inclusive of 7% GST) is applied once even if you change both the degree and mode of study. A subsequent transfer fee is imposed if
you make a further request for change.

 Transfer for International Students

 Due to concerns over Student's Pass issues, international continuing students must provide reasons before a change of degree is permitted. If you wish to
change your degree in order to graduate sooner, please email Student Services with your request and explanation after your UOL results are released. Any
transfer requests will be reviewed after the exam results are out. The transfer will be activated by SIM staff and international students will not be able to do the
transfer during SSCE. Any approved transfer will require the student to accept a new student contract via SIMConnect. An email will be triggered to accept
the e-contract by a stipulated timeline in order for the transfer to take effect.
 Any programme transfer will require ICA to change the student’s pass. As it takes time for ICA to process and approve the change, international students will
not be allowed to attend classes until the new student’s pass has been approved. Do not assume that approval will be granted.
 New international students are not permitted to transfer degree as student’s pass would have been submitted to ICA for processing.

7. Mandatory transfer to New Regulations in 2016 for those under Old Regulations
All BSc students have 8 years to complete the whole degree (12 courses). Students with exemptions from 4 full units have 5 years to complete the degree. Students
under the Old Regulations are reminded of the compulsory transfer to the New Regulations in 2016 should you not be able to graduate by August 2016. There are
potential complications as some units available under the Old Regs are not available in the New Regs for the same degree. We suggest that each student affected by
this should alert us so that we can discuss with you and with the University about your subject combination.

8. Classification changes
There is a change from what we announced in 2015. The change will affect those who register with UOL in or after 2016. All students who join the UOL programme
in 2016 will be classified for the degree upon passing 11 out of 12 full courses. Currently, there is a penalty of a drop in the degree class for students who have only
passed 10 full courses.

9. "Self-study"
Students are not permitted to self-study any courses (ie. new or resit). Students must ensure that all courses (new and resit) which they need to fulfil in the
diploma/degree are registered with classes at SIM. Courses and examinations registered with UOL and RELC must match with the courses registered with SIM. Any
unauthorized non-registration of SIM classes could lead to disciplinary procedures including course fee charges and/or termination of studies.

10. Maximum number of full units per year

 A student progresses at normal pace by taking a maximum of 4 full new units per year and can complete 12 full units over three years. If you are not at the
graduating stage, your new and resit courses per year should add up to no more than five courses (if you have new courses and re-sits).
 If you are at the graduating stage ie. You will complete your degree after the May 2017 examinations, you may take up to five new courses provided there are
no additional resits.
 If you are left with 5.5 or 6.0 or more units, please do not appeal to SIM nor UOL to allow you to take all these units at one go in the next coming examination.
This is University regulation which students are expected to follow strictly. Instead of sending appeal to UOL, please plan on how you are to successfully pass
all the remaining units in your degree over the next two years. Use the chance to aim for a higher classification. We are aware that reasons cited have been:
Need to seek full-time employment, cannot stay one extra year in Singapore, need to get married, parents unable to support for an additional year, etc. UOL
has given students eight years to complete the degree. While we do not think you will take eight years, it is normal for students to spread out their units so that
they can achieve better grades in their examinations.

11. Deferment, Attempt not to count, Absence certified

 Students who fail a paper and need to resit MUST take it again the subsequent year (next occasion). Cannot defer re-taking the paper.
 Exceptions are made for "Attempt not to count" or "Absence certified" outcomes. The attempt will not be counted and the student will be allowed to take the
paper again without academic penalty.

12. Pairing of half courses

 For Full-time classes commencing 15 August, half courses can be held from Aug - Nov and Nov - Feb.
For classes commencing 17 Sept (full-time and part-time programmes), half courses are held from Sept - Dec and Dec - Feb.
It would be wise to spread the half courses over the academic year (eg. Math 1 from Aug to Nov, followed by Stats 1 from Nov to Feb) instead of taking both half
courses at the same time, from Aug to Nov, or from Nov to Feb.

 BSc Economics and BSc Econs and Finance students who are taking four half courses should do the following:
First half of the academic year: MT105A Maths 1 and ST104A Stats 1
Second half of the academic year: MT105B Maths 2 and ST104B Stats 2

 For all other degrees whose students only take two half courses, classes for Maths 1 should preferably be taken prior to classes for Stats 1

13. Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL or exemptions)

The latest automatic exemptions table or APL can be found on the UOLIP website. The deadline for application for APL is 1 October 2016. Please liaise directly with
UOL for all discretionary APL. Automatic APL found in the APL table will be assumed in SIMConnect.
http://www.londoninternational.ac.uk/applications-admissions/accreditation-prior-learning OR
http://www.londoninternational.ac.uk/sites/default/files/documents/emfss_automatic_apl_table_regs.pdf

When students have been awarded APL for one unnamed level 100 course, this can be placed at line 5 or 12 of the degree structure
 At line 5 of degree structure: One course (or two half courses) from Selection group F1
 At line 12 of degree structure: One 100, 200 or 300 course (or two half courses) from any of the Selection groups

You must pass or have been granted APL for a total of two 100 courses before you are allowed to take any 200 or 300 courses. Between APL for a named and an
unnamed level 100 course, students should use the APL for the named course in the first instance. Eg. In the BSc Accounting and Finance degree, a NAP graduate
with APL for MN1178 may place the exemption at line 5.

Examples of progression for students with APL

If you have APL for one unnamed level 100 course, you may complete 11 courses out of 12. These need to be spread over three years. It can be spread as such: 4+3+4
or 3+4+4 (recommended).

A student who has APL for 3.5 courses such as ST104A (½ course), AC1025, MN1178 and one unnamed level 100 course, may not be able to utilise all the exemptions.
It depends on the degree structure. Such a student in the BSc Accounting & Finance degree can only use 2.5 of the 3.5 courses exempted. At line 5 of the BAF degree,
either MN1178 or the one unnamed level 100 course may be used. Not both. The balance of the 9.5 courses need to be completed over three years - 3.5+3+3. The
candidate with the same diploma who chooses the BSc Business & Management (BZM) degree is able to use the APL for all 3.5 courses as the BZM degree permits
the unnamed level 100 course to be placed at line 12. With APL for 3.5 courses, the balance of the 8.5 modules can be completed in a minimum of two years (or spread
over three). If done in two years, the combination can only be 3.5+5. If spread over three years, it will be 2.5+3+3 (three papers per year). See Point 3 about attempting
five full units in the final year. It is only permitted if there are no resits.

14. To find out more about each unit, refer to the following:
 Without any password, go to the UOL website (www.londoninternational.ac.uk). Go to Community, Support & Resources> Current Students>EMFSS Programme
Resources>
You can refer to Course information sheets, Subject guides, Past exam papers, and Exam commentaries and Exam papers. The Course information sheets include
key information such as syllabus you will be examined; course aims and objectives; learning outcomes; essential reading list; prerequisite & exclusion info;
assessment method, etc.

 If you have the UOL password for the VLE, go to the UOL student portal (https://my.londoninternational.ac.uk). There are videos to watch which will shed more
light about the subjects and what to expect.

 SIM Headquarters’ Tay Eng Soon Library where copies of subject guides are available.

15. Except on Saturdays, courses which are only offered on a full-time basis at SIM are meant for students in the full-time programme. Classes are likely to be in the day
on week days or on Saturdays. If they are held on Saturdays, those in the part-time programme can enrol.

16. Unless otherwise mentioned, all courses are offered on both full-time and part-time basis.

Recommendations for each degree

17. BSc Accounting & Finance (BAF)

 The Singapore Qualification Programme (Singapore QP), launched in June 2013 by the Singapore Accountancy Commission (SAC), provides a pathway for
graduates of all disciplines to become Chartered Accountants of Singapore. While there are many SIM-UOL students who do the BSc Accounting & Finance
without becoming a chartered/certified/practising accountant, SIM would encourage our graduates to pursue the professional qualifications. If you are keen to
become a Chartered Accountant of Singapore, you should be familiar with the articulation pathways. More information on the QP is available at
singaporeqp.com. You may like to note that SIM Global Education is an Accredited Learning Organisation-Foundation Programme (ALO-FP) for the Singapore
QP.

 Besides Singapore's own accounting qualifications, there are other overseas professional accounting bodies operating in Singapore. ACCA, CPA Australia, CIMA
and ICAEW permit SIM-UOL graduates to obtain exemptions from some papers of their professional examinations. Do bear in mind that the exemptions tend to
have a validity period and the latest information can be obtained from the websites of the various bodies.

 Students not planning on pursuing professional accounting certification may choose any electives to make up the BSc Accounting & Finance degree.

 Supplementary short courses in law and taxation. Those planning to take on professional accountancy qualifications are strongly encouraged to plan ahead.
To supplement the theory of accounting, SIM will be organising two short courses in local taxation and local contract law in 2016. LSE will grant APL (exemption)
from one unnamed Level 100 unit. If granted, students will be able to replace Line 5 with these two short courses taken and examined by SIM. As such, students
may wish to keep line 5 "free" till you have completed BOTH the taxation and law courses. No half unit APL will be awarded for passing only one of the two
courses. The UOL deadline for APL application is 1 October of each year. The next few runs will be as follows:

o Elements of Singapore Law:

 Mid-Sept 2016 to Nov 2016
 June to Aug 2017
 Mid-Sept 2017-Nov 2017
o Elements of Singapore Tax:
 Nov 2016 to Jan 2017
 June to Aug 2017
 Nov 2017-Jan 2018

o The Sept/Nov 2016 classes are only suitable for students progressing into the second year of their degree programme. For students hoping to take graduate in
2017, you can only apply for exemption (APL) if you took these short courses in June 2016. (The results will be out in end-Aug 2016. The UOL deadline for
exemption is 1 Oct 2016.) Students who are currently left with six units as at Aug 2016 will have to spread your units and do them over two years. You will
not be able to apply for exemption from line 5 with the intent to graduate in 2017.

o Students not wanting to seek APL from UOL are welcomed to enrol for these short courses especially for BAF or BBF students who wish to pursue professional
accountancy qualifications and work in Singapore. Completing these two modules will:
 allow candidates exemption from ACCA F4 (law) for BBF and F6 (taxation) for BBF and BAF. The current courses in the BAF and BBF degrees
already qualify for many other exemptions from the ACCA F papers.
 allow you to qualify for admission to the UOL MSc Professional Accountancy (Lead college is UCL)
 aid you as you prepare for the Gateway Programme for the Singapore QP to become a Chartered Accountant (CA Singapore).

 Students who start from Year 1 are recommended either of these progression plans, the second leverages on the short courses in Taxation and Law:
Year 1 – EC1002, ST104A, MT105A, FN1024, AC1025
Year 2 – AC3091, AC3097, MN3028, one Level 200/300 elective
Year 3 – AC3059, AC3093, two electives: one Level 100 and one Level 200/300

Year 1 – EC1002, ST104A, MT105A, FN1024, AC1025 (5 UOL exams)

Year 2 – AC3091, AC3097, MN3028, plus two short courses in Tax and Law between June and November (5 classes; 4 at any one time; 3 UOL exams)
Year 3 – AC3059, AC3093, two electives at Level 200/300 (4 UOL exams)
 ACCA - At the moment, BAF graduates who aim to pursue membership with ACCA are awarded exemption from eight out of nine Fundamentals or F papers. It
also does not matter whether you completed 8, 9 or 12 courses in the degree, as long as the candidate is awarded the BAF degree. These ACCA papers include:
F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F7, F8, F9. F6 is exempted if the Elements of Singapore Tax is completed. Updates can be found under Exemption Enquiry on the
www.accaglobal.com website.

 Students who will complete the BSc Business (BBZ) by 2017 can remain in the same degree (New Regulations). If you will only graduate in or after 2018, you
will need to make a transfer to the BSc Business and Management (BZM) degree in 2016. The BBZ degree is being phased out and replaced with the BZM degree.
 All remaining students in the BSc Business will follow the New Regulations (which is now the only and current Regulations) which means the passing mark is 40%
and no longer 34%.

course in order to graduate in 2017. It will not be offered to others who have a choice of courses. If it is offered, SIM will contact the BSc Economics students who
require it. The SSCE course registration will proceed as normal. Those who are require this additional course will be short of one course when you complete your
SSCE. The additional course is to be added later. Please email Ian Koh via Student Services.

22. BSc Economics & Finance (BEF)

 This is a reminder that students who enrol on advanced standing, having completed the bridging courses in Economics and in Mathematics, are not recommended
for this degree, as the economics modules are deemed rather challenging.

 Students who start from Year 1 are recommended this combination:

 Year 1 – EC1002, ST104A, ST104B, MT105A, MT105B, FN1024
 Year 2 – EC2020, EC2065, EC2066, FN3092

 In the BEF degree, students progressing to Year 2 must do EC2020, EC2065, EC2066 in Year 2. There are pre-requisites you must do in Year 2, in order to attempt
the advanced economics courses in Year 3. EC2065 is the pre-req for EC3115 Monetary Economics. EC2066 is the pre-req for EC3099 Industrial Economics.
EC2020 and EC2066 are pre-reqs for FN3142 Quantitative Finance. EC2020 has co-requisites which are ST104B and MT105B.

 Students who do not pass EC2020 which is a pre-req for FN3142 and wish to graduate within a year can consider a programme transfer to BSc Economics.

23. BSc Economics & Management (BEM)
 Students who start from Year 1 are recommended this combination:
 Year 1 – EC1002, ST104A, MT105A, AC1025, MN1178
 Year 2 –MN2177, EC2065, MN3028/EC2066 and one elective
 Year 3 –MN3119 and three other electives from Group E and M
 In the BEM degree, students progressing to Year 2 need to consider very carefully the courses they wish to do in Year 3, especially those from Group E. There may
be pre-requisites you must do in Year 2 in order to attempt the advanced economics courses in the final year. MN3028 or EC2066 is the pre-req for EC3099
Industrial Economics. EC2065 is the pre-req for EC3115 Monetary Economics.

24. BSc Economics & Politics (BEPFT) (Full-time only)

 BEP students from Year 1 should opt for the following:
 Year 1 – EC1002, ST104A, MT105A, PS1130, PS1172
 Year 2 – EC2065, EC2066, PS2082, one elective
 Year 3 – EC3099, PS3086, two electives (PS3086 will be offered only in 2017/18)

25. BSc Information Systems & Management (BIMFT) (Full-time only)

 BIM students from Year 1 of Path B should opt for the following:
 Year 1 – IS1060, IS1168, MN1178, either IR1011 or SC1179
 Year 2 – IS2062, IS2138, MN2177, one Level 100, 200 or 300 elective
 Year 3 – IS3139, IS3159, IS3167, one Level 300 elective
 Those exempted from MT105A need to consider if they should forego the exemption, for if they keep the exemption, they need to take on another half unit - either
ST104A or MT105B to complete the full unit. We would recommend foregoing the exemption for MT105A Mathematics 1 so that there is no need for you to take
another half unit (Level 100)

 In the BIM degree, students progressing to Year 2 must do IS2062 and IS2138 in Year 2. These are pre-requisites you must do in Year 2, in order to attempt the
advanced courses in Year 3. IS2062 and IS2138 are the pre-requisites for IS3139 Software Engineering and IS3159 Research Project in Information Systems.

 LSE has informed us that the BIM degree will be renamed in 2017. We anticipate several replacement subjects and more choices. As such, we would encourage
you not to spread out your units, to please complete the degree in as soon as you can. LSE will also provide options for students wanting to transfer to the new
degree.

26. BSc International Relations (BIRFT) (Full-time only)
Students transferring in should note the degree requirements and understand what can be credited upon transfer. BSc International Relations students from Year 1
should opt for the following:
 Year 1 - IR1011, PS1172, two Level 100 units - PS1130/SC1179/MN1178
 Year 2 - DV3162, SP2079 and two Group IR courses drawn from IR3026, IR3140, IR2137
 Year 3 - Remaining Group IR / P courses

27. BSc Mathematics & Economics (BMEFT) (Full-time only)

 This degree is increasingly challenging and we would like to emphasize that the degree is more suitable for students who have successfully completed H2 or A level
mathematics. Students need to score well in Calculus and Algebra in order to progress smoothly in the degree. If you have scored less than 50% in these two Level
100 exams, you may wish to transfer to another degree. If you are intending to transfer to this degree, do note the admission criteria has been enhanced to require
applicants to have a pass in A level mathematics or the equivalent. Unless you meet this requirement, do not transfer to the BME degree.

 If you pass MT1174 Calculus and transfer to another degree in the EMFSS range, you can be credited MT105A Maths 1 and MT105B Maths 2.

 BSc Mathematics & Economics students who pass all the Year 1 units are recommended to opt for the following in Year 2 and 3:
 Year 1 – EC1002, MT1173, MT1174, ST104A, ST104B
 Year 2 – EC2065, EC2066, MT2116, MT2175, MT2176
 Year 3 –Two half units: MT3040, MT3041 and three units from Group E (EC2020/3099/3115/3120/FN3092)

 Please be reminded that half units are not necessarily half the effort of a full unit. You are encouraged to take on full units wherever possible. MT3041 requires
MT2116 as a pre-requisite. We have also found that BME students can cope with the challenging EC2020 since they have done more statistics and macroeconomics
than non-BME students. EC3120 used to be compulsory and remains popular with BME students.
