    Assessment Pattern IX-X (Physics)

    The purposes of assessment is to measure the extent to which students have achieved the
    learning outcomes of the programmed based on this curriculum Statements. An external
    examination is recommended at the end of year. The syllabus division is suggested as
    shown below:
    Sections Marks Weightage
    1. Mechanics Chapter 1 to 10 54 45.37 %
    2. Heat Chapter 11 10 8.40%
    3. Oscillations Chapter 12 to 13 10 8.40%
    4. Optics Chapter 14 10 8.40%
    5. Electricity and Magnetism Chapter 15 to17 21 17.64%
    6. Atomic & Nuclear Physics Chapter 18 and 19 14 11.76%
    The Examination:
    The theory examination is suggested to consist of two parts each containing a wide
    variety of types of questions. Together the paper should be designed to examine the
    candidates understanding of the whole syllabus and should test the following range of
    abilities.
    Knowledge and understanding (recall 30%) 60%
    Higher abilities (handling information, 20%
    Applications, and problem solving etc.) 30%

    Paper -1 (part I) 19 compulsory objective questions.


    Half an hour 20% This may include MCQS of various types to evaluate
    abilities and investigation skills as detailed in
    assessment objectives (a) and (b)
    Paper – 1 (part II) This paper should consist of two sections. Section I
    2½ hour should contain two parts. Students are required to
    Section -1 50% attempt 10 out of 16 questions (5 out of each part).
    Section –II 30% Each question carries 4 marks. Part A of section I
    contains 8 numerical and Part B of Section I contains
    8 short questions. Section II should contain 3 essay or
    comprehensive questions which may include the
    choice of attempting any two questions. Any
    calculations required should be simple and direct.
    Each question should be divide into (a) and (b) parts
    comprising of 7 and 6 marks respectively. One of the
    parts will have questions that require scientific
    reasoning.
