Dear Ms. Rust,

I am writing in gratitude for the opportunity youve given me to learn and teach
alongside you in your classroom, as well as to give you a better idea of who I
am before we begin working together.

I am a fourth year student studying English with a concentration in education

at Colorado State University. Ive completed two other practicum courses prior
to this partnership -- at Wellington and Conrad Ball Middle Schools,
respectively -- and am currently beginning my second year as a teaching
assistant and tutor at Polaris Expeditionary Learning School in a 6th grade ELA
classroom. Fossil Ridge High School will be my first practical experience with
high school students in the classroom, and I am so excited for the opportunity
to observe and work with you and your students. The best and most
comprehensive representation of my work in the education program at CSU
can be found at kaitlynedu.weebly.com.

It is important to me that you know the reverence and passion I have for this
profession. I fell into teaching almost by accident, and since my first semester
at CSU have fallen in love with teaching and learning. I feel called -- and very
lucky to have been called -- to teaching, and take very seriously this
opportunity to learn how to be the best teacher I can be before I student teach
in the Spring.

In addition to teaching, Im passionate about travel and interested in learning

about other cultures (especially through their food and literature), and have
been fortunate enough to work with some of my best friends in a rural
community in Northern Uganda called Namasale, a place that has quickly
become another home to me. I also spend far too much time listening to
podcasts and have an affinity for historic literature, specifically early American
poetry (which is why Im so excited to join your U.S. Literature and
Composition course!)

Again, thank you for the opportunity, and I look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Kaitlyn Phillips
