Our major fundraiser for the year Fiesta, is coming up on the MONDAY 23rd OCTOBER

please keep an eye out for any messages that might come through on TUESDAY 24th &

almost every family is using the school website to log on to CDFPay for Current family interviews for
the purchase of uniforms and lunches from the canteen. As we approach Foundation
the Fiesta we will be adding to the content of this app and you will be
able to purchase wrist bands for the rides as well as other activities Music Recital (7.00 p.m.)

Orientation Day 1 for
Our Year Three students are well in to their preparation for the celebra- Foundation Students 2018
tion of their First Reconciliation which will be on Thursday 19 th October
starting at 7.00pm. This is a very special occasion for the students and I FRIDAY 3rd NOVEMBER
know that they will be very reverent on the evening. We will have some Pet Education
visiting priests to assist Fr Justin and Fr Joseph but there will be some (FoundationYear 2)
time where we will ask families to respect the significance of the celebra-
tion and remain quietly in your seats. I hope that I do not have to ask
MONDAY 6th NOVEMBER
people to be quiet on the night.
School Closure
On Monday 23rd of October we will be having a school closure day where
we will be joining with the staff from St Margarets to learn about the TUESDAY 7th NOVEMBER
new Religious Education Framework that has been released by Catholic Melbourne Cup Holiday
Education Melbourne and must be introduced and assessed against in
2018. The staff from St Margarets will join us here at St Marys and we
look forward to working closely with them and the Religious Education
team from Catholic Education Melbourne. CURRENT FAMILY INTERVIEWS
Also in week three of the term I will be meeting with children starting FOR FOUNDATION CAN BE
here in foundation next year who have siblings already at St Marys. I BOOKED ONLINE EITHER

little ones who are, no doubt, looking forward to joining their big broth-
ers or sisters here at school. www.smascotvale.catholic.edu.au
Week Three looks like as busy one as we also have music recitals taking
or THE SCHOOL INTERVIEWS
place on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Last year I was amazed at
the talent on display from the children who take extra curricular key- WEBSITE
board and guitar lessons and I know that the children will again star www.schoolinterviews.com.au

Along with the health benefits, it also reduces traffic congestion, saves on parking, helps us connect with family and
friends and saves the environment! Part way is okay! If you cant walk the whole way, why not try parking the car a
few blocks from your school and walk, ride or scoot the rest.
Last year, more than 144,000 kids and their families took part in the program walking the equivalent of two return trips
to the moon and with your families help, we can make 2017 our biggest year yet!
There are so many great reasons to participate in Walk to School this October and were excited to be part of the fun
because getting active is even more fun when we do it together!

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT SPHERE
Dear God,
We give thanks for places of simplicity and peace.
Let us find such a place within ourselves.
We give thanks for places of refuge and beauty.
Let us find such a place within ourselves.
We give thanks for places of natures truth and freedom,
Of joy, inspiration and renewal,
Places where all creatures may find acceptance and belonging.
Let us search for these places:
In the world, in ourselves and in others.
Let us restore them.
Let us strengthen and protect them and let us create them.
May we mend this outer world
According to the truth of our inner life
And may our souls be shaped and nourished
By natures eternal wisdom.
Amen.

At a Glance
Many children with learning and attention issues have trouble picking up on social rules.
Kids who dont understand or follow social rules may feel like they dont know how to fit in.
You can help your child learn and practise key social skills.
When theres a line at the post office, you wait your turn. If you bump someone with your grocery trolley, you apologize. And
when other people are talking, you let them finish speaking before you respond.
Most of us do these things because we understand the unwritten social rules that guide how we interact with each other.
Kids with learning and attention issues, however, often have trouble learning and following basic social rules. Your child may
not notice or understand these rules. Or he may lack the self-control needed to follow them.
Helping your child understand social expectations is a good first step toward helping him meet them. Here are five key social
rules that can be challenging for kids with learning and attention issues:

There are 8 new reward items for 2017 from the Future Savers range:
Cyber Handball
Colour Change Markers
3D Chalk Set
Tablet Case
Smiley Emoji Keyring

This year, School Banking is running a Future Savers Grand Prize competition that will take one lucky School
Banker all the way to Tokyo, Japan. The winner gets an unforgettable family trip, for up to two adults and

Tomorrowland, plus enjoy the fun rides at Tokyo Disney Sea.
