MANOR FIELD INFANT AND NURSERY
SCHOOL NEWS LETTER 12TH NOVEMBER 2010
Birthday Assemblies Parents are invited to join us for a birthday assembly on Friday 19 th November at 1.15pm for all children who have birthdays from 14th November to 20th November inclusive. Art Club & Football Club The last Art and Football Clubs for this term are on Monday 15th November. Football Club will resume in the New Year. Children in Need – Spotty Day On Friday 19th of November we are holding a Spotty non uniform day in support of Children in Need. Children are invited to donate £1.00 to Children in Need and come to school wearing something spotty. All money collected will be donated to the Children in Need appeal. Head Lice There have been a few cases of head lice reported in school. Please check your child’s hair regularly. This stops head lice becoming a problem in school. One tip is to regularly comb through the hair with a fine toothed comb and conditioner. Parking We would like to remind all parents that parking is not permitted on school premises. This applies at any time of the day as our staff need to be able to access the car park at all times, and includes when you are bringing or collecting children from school or Nursery. Nursery Parents Evenings Morning Nursery Parents Evenings will be held on Tuesday 23rd November 3.30 – 6.00pm and Thursday 25th November 1.00 – 3.30pm. Afternoon Nursery Parents Evenings will be held on Wednesday 24th November 3.30 – 5.30pm and Thursday 25th November 3.30 – 5.30pm. E-Safety Thank you to those parents who attended the e-safety meeting. We hope that you found it interesting and informative. The following websites were mentioned at the session and you may find the useful: www.thinkuknow.co.uk – this has links for parents and children. There is useful cartoon to show to your child featuring Lee and Kim which shows young children how to navigate an online world safely. Thinkuknow also has links to CEOPS – child exploitation and online protection centre. www.thinkuknow.co.uk/5_5/hectorsworld – introduces Hector and his friends. Children can play games and watch cartoons to learn about internet safety. Message from the High School The change in uniform to shirts, ties and blazers has proved very popular with students, parents and staff. The uniform has made the school more business like with a clear message we are here to learn. We did very well in the summer with our GCSE exam results achieving 76% 5A* - C. Our current progress tracking data suggest that we are on track to achieve 80% and break this record. We have some very interesting visits taking place over the next few months. Students are going to a Christmas market in Aachen Germany and to the Royal Institute Lectures in London. Mr Wilson, deputy headteacher, will be travelling to Switzerland to visit CERN (The European Laboratory for Particle Physics). He will use his experience to enhance the curriculum within the school particularly the space date we are holding for years 7 & 9 next year. Extended Schools - 5 a Side Football – Long Stratton Leisure Centre Two free taster sessions for 6-10 year olds are running at Long Stratton Leisure Centre on Monday 15th and Monday 22nd November from 5.30pm – 6.25pm.
