1. What does your pre-assessment observation indicate about your students needs, and
current performance and educational needs? Students are familiar with fairytales, but
they need to be able to identify and employ synonyms found in the text into their own
daily language use, thus increasing their vocabulary knowledge.
2. How will you design the lesson to meet the needs of all learners in your classroom?
The class will use vocabulary from the traditional story The Twelve Dancing Princesses
by Ruth Sanderson as this weeks vocabulary lesson. First, we will read the text for
pleasure. Then students will receive copies of the new vocabulary. Students will divide
into four vocabulary groups and participate in a Jigsaw activity. Students will then
regroup and share their findings in groups of four. These groups will be assigned a
specific page from the original story and rewrite the text substituting synonyms for the
original text.

Lesson Objective: Compare European dancing Assessment of Learning: Participation in

Powwow clothing and shoes found in the Indian Powwow finery.

Culturally, dancing was an acceptable form of entertainment in Europe during the middle ages.
In the United State, Native Indian tribes gather at Powwows for socializing, which includes
dancing. We will wrap up the lesson with a discussion that compares the princesses clothing
and shoes with the clothing and shoes that native peoples wear during Powwows.

Reflection and Recommendations for the Next Time: Trying to include information that
satisfies Indian Education for All (IFA) is difficult, especially when the teacher is not well versed
in Native American culture. Creating lesson plans that satisfy IEFA requires collaboration
between those who know more about the culture and those who need to learn more about the
culture.
Collect and display other versions of the traditional fairytale The Twelve Dancing Princesses.
