    Maximum rain fall intensity = 150 mm / hour
    Roof width = 56 + 0.5 = 56.5 M
    Down take pipes spacing = 10 m C/C
    Roof drainage area to be handled by gutter to = 56.5 X 5
    discharge in to the down take pipe = 282.5 sq.m
    Add: 10% area for any cross flow in gutter = 28.25 sq.m
    310.75 sq.m
    Say 311 sq.m.
    Maximum water flow to be handled by the = 311 X 0.15 = 46.65 cum / hour.
    Gutter = 0.013 cum / second
    Provide 400 mm wide x 250 mm deep gutter 400 mm x 250 mm

    Effective water flow area of gutter = 0.4 X 0.15 = 0.06 sq.m

    Provide a gradient of 1 in 600


    Velocity of flow as per mannings formula
    Velocity of flow at (150 mm depth) full flow = 1/n X R 2/3 X S 1/2
    = 1 / 0.013 X (0.06 / 0.7) 2/3 X (1 / 600) 1/2
    = 1 / 0.013 X 0.19 X 0.0408 = 0.59 m / sec.
    Say 0.5 m / sec.
    Therefore water carrying capacity of gutter =AXV
    = 0.06 X 0.5 = 0.03 cum / second.
    Gutter capacity required, Therefore Safe 0.013 cum / second.

    Down take pipe


    1) Rain fall intensity 150 mm / hour
    2) Down take pipe spacing 10 m C/C
    3) Roof width 56 + 0.5 = 56.5 M
    Therefore, storm water drainage area (roof = 56.5 X 10 = 565 Sq.m
    area) for each down take pipe
    As per NBC formula RA = 0.084 x d 5/2 / I
    250 mm dia pipe will drain = 553 sq.m of roof drainage area
    260 mm dia pipe will drain = 610 sq.m of roof drainage area
    OR
    2 Nos. 200 mm dia pipe 633 sq.m. of roof drainage area
