As you are all aware, last Sunday was Valentines Day, a holiday celebrating love. It is an
occasion to celebrate with anyone you love and care so it does not have to be restricted to your
partner or spouse. Commercials have had their way of trivializing love that exist between
different kinds of people. In this assembly, we aim to remind you of the type of love that we are
all familiar with but yet forgotten. By this we mean the bonds between family, friends and
hundreds of people that you have yet to meet.
Saint Valentine was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to
marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire. He
helped because he cared, he cared because he loved them. And that my friends is the Saint
Valentines Day.
With that in mind, let us begin with a song sung by a very talented group of students, Sasilu,
Damsith, Suren and Sanira, the Amplifiers.
