Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH, pl. Polska Akcja Humanitarna)
Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) is a non-governmental organization. For 20 years, PAH has been
providing relief in emergencies worldwide. PAH also run missions in several countries in crisis. PAH
interventions of both humanitarian and development character have been carried out in 44 countries
so far. PAH concentrate on ensuring sustainable and stable development of regions suffering the
consequences of war and/or natural disasters. PAH possess long-standing expertise in Water, Sanitation
and Hygiene (WASH), but also implement projects in Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), as well as
Nutrition and Education. Key responsibilities of my position included;
Based on the department strategy, partake in the defining and implementation of the Missions
strategy, including project plans, fundraising plans, PR activities, HR policies. Organizes and
manage the Missions administrative, legal, financial and logistic activities.
Develop Missions actions in the region through conducting reconnaissance for new projects and
proposing new actions, conducting fundraising, including obtaining and extending the
cooperation with donors present in the area where the Mission operates, in cooperation with
Project Coordinators, the Programme Coordinator and the Directors of individual Departments,
manages promotional and PR activities, in cooperation with Project Coordinators, the Program
Coordinator and Directors of individual Departments
Represent PAH in the region, participates in coordination meetings of particular work groups,
establishes and maintains cooperation with outside institutions, including international NGOs,
governmental institutions and their agencies, local NGOs and local government, as well as local
and foreign media, in regards to implemented projects, in accord with the PR Department and
Project Coordinators.
Responsible for ensuring employees and volunteers abide by safety procedures on the Mission.
Develops a safety plan and keeps it up to date.
United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Islamabad Pakistan
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General
Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing
adequate shelter for all. It is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the
UN system. UN-Habitats vision of urbanization encompasses all levels of human settlements, including
small rural communities, villages, market towns, immediate cities and large cities and metropolises. UN-
Habitat renewed its presence in Pakistan in late 2005 following the devastating earthquake in the north
of the country, facilitating the reconstruction of over 460,000 houses. At present, UN-Habitat is co-
convener of Strategic Priority Area on DRR/DRM of the One-UN Pakistan Programme 2013-2017, Chair of
the WASH Working Group and is actively represented in the Shelter, WASH and Community Restoration
clusters in KP & FATA. Key responsibilities of my position include;
Lead and manage the Basic Services Unit including ongoing country initiatives related to WASH
emergency and early recovery, WASH interventions in polio-affected slums, solid waste
management and WASH infrastructure/facilities, particularly on projects/initiatives funded by
UNICEF.
Provide strategic direction to the Basic Services Unit and team members so as to bring coherence,
synergy and added value to programme management processes using a results-based
management approach to planning and design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
Mobilize necessary resources for expanding the Basic Services portfolio by identifying suitable
opportunities, formulating project concept notes and proposals in line with the
Governments priorities, international commitments and obligations, and UN-Habitats
Lead the process of promoting and sourcing funds for UN-Habitats flagship proposals on SPA1
and chairing of the SPA1 WASH Working Group with special context to improvement of WASH in
urban informal settlements and schools and in humanitarian context, including other SPA Working
Group as may be assigned.
Network with key stakeholders, particularly relevant Government agencies at all levels, UN
agencies, donors and partners and establish links of country initiatives with the regional networks
and initiatives.
Active participation in meetings and consultations of the WASH Cluster, PWON, SACOSAN and
other UN inter-agency and government discussions and fora.
Promote UN-Habitats Urban Basic Services, particularly Urban WASH, through advocacy and
policy dialogues, active engagement in communication, networking and participation at every
opportunity inside and outside UN-Habitat Pakistan, leveraging the strength of UN-Habitats
mission, goals and programmes, and reference to the WASH strategy.
Provide technical and managerial support and mentoring to the Basic Services team in Islamabad
and coordinate with the Operations Team in Islamabad and Project Field Teams to ensure proper
and timely delivery of projects and commitments.
Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH) provides humanitarian aid worldwide. It supports people who have
fallen victim to natural disasters, war and displacement. In its activities DKH is committed to the basic
principles of humanitarian aid as laid down in the Code of Conduct of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and
of non-governmental aid organizations in the context of emergency assistance. In Pakistan DKH has
supported more than one million people in need since the devastating Kashmir earthquake of October
2005 and implemented more than 70 projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Azad, Jammu and Kashmir
(AJK), Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan in partnership with Pakistani Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
My key responsibilities included
Capacity building and technical backstopping of implementing partners, and work in close
collaboration with other Sector Managers/coordinators (FSL, DRR and construction) and Monitors
to ensure that DRR cross cutting opportunities have been adequately explored, developed and
incorporated into other sector projects.
Effectively managed the overall Base/Office related activities (Admin, Logistics and security) and
also performed the duties of being a focal person for all the program sectors working from the
base.
Design and undertake needs assessment surveys for the formulation of various concept notes and
project proposals (Proposal Narrative, LFAs, Estimation and Budgeting, Budget narratives,
implementation plans) submitted to ECHO, AA, USAID, USDA, AA, BMZ, BFDW, UNICEF, UNDP,
USDA, WB and DKH. Also, responsible for finalizing monthly, quarterly, mid-term, end of project
reporting and developing success stories and case studies.
Representation on respective sector to relevant clusters, agencies and local ministries, as and
when required. Also, effectively coordinated with project stakeholders and Government line
agencies including PDMA, District Government representatives, TMA, PHED, UN Agencies, Health
and Education departments.
Design baseline and end line assessments and KAP (Knowledge attitude and practice) surveys in
order to monitor the progress of different projects and conclude lessons learnt for future
compliance.
Organized workshop on Project management, LFA use, Monitoring and evaluation tools and
frameworks, Use of PRA tools and problem tree analysis, conducting Need baseline end line and
KAP surveys and assessments, Child to Child (C2C) approach for hygiene promotion and
awareness, Assessments and assessments methodologies, Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene
promotion (WASH), SPHERE standards, mainstreaming of cross cutting themes of Gender, DRR
and environment.
Provide technical support to local NGOs for the finalization of Bill of quantities and designs for
community physical infrastructures (CPIs) provided in the communities, Schools and DRR safe
places (Including BOQs and designs of Latrines, water supply schemes, drains, water supply
schemes, soakage pits, septic tanks, seed storage facilities).
Lead a team of WASH specialists (Engineers, assessment and hygiene promotion specialists) and
contribute to their personal development goals as well by providing them in-house trainings, day
to day technical back stopping and recommending them to national level training programmes
and workshops.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the worlds worst humanitarian crises and helps
people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities to restore safety,
dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The International Rescue Committee has
worked in Pakistan since 1980, providing emergency relief, health care, education, job training and other
essential services in communities affected by conflict and natural disaster. Key Responsibilities included;
Support the EH/WASH Coordinator at the field level to implement all interventions related to
Environmental Health. This includes water provision and protection, sanitation infrastructure, NFI
distribution and hygiene awareness programs. Directly supervise
teams of environmental health staff and provide technical supervision, back stopping and capacity
building of IRC environmental health projects in the field.
Initiate and assist with project proposal submissions when required and undertake baseline,
interim and final surveys to assess, monitors and evaluate programs. Also, make sure that
EH/WASH programs utilize standardized protocols, policies and guidelines, as proscribed by the
Ministry of Health, Department of Hydraulics, WHO and Sphere Guidelines. Ensure that all
environmental health activities are consistent with established best practices.
Work closely with the finance, programs and logistics teams to ensure proper project planning,
proper budget management and timely procurement of all materials. Assist with grants and
reporting systems and management of budgets, including budget forecasting, development of
spending and work plans.
Where necessary represent IRC to UN, international and national NGOs, and Ministry of Health
and Department of Hydraulics
Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) Islamabad, Pakistan
As one of the largest sources of pro-poor spending in the country, the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund
(PPAF) is the lead agency for poverty reduction in Pakistan. Being a community-led, demand-driven
institution, PPAF focuses on partnerships which are non-prescriptive and model-neutral but value-driven.
The essence of PPAFs work is to support and strengthen institutions for the poor (partner organizations)
in developing institutions of the poor that are well governed, transparent, democratic, and accountable.
Key Responsibilities included;
Verifying, monitoring, review of work plans and progress reports related to the work of
implementing partners of Khyber PukhtoonKhwa (AKRSP, SRSP, CMDO, SABAWON, GBTI, CUP),
Gilgit Baltistan (AKRSP, SRSP) and that of Baluchistan (BRSP, TF, BEEJ, PIDS, BRDRS) and
recommending the disbursement of quarterly amount for carrying out the Agreed
implementation plan signed with these Partner organizations. Also, making sure that designs and
implementation interventions (Community Physical Infrastructures) are constructed in
collaboration with GOP ministries, local communities, farmers, private sector, and NGOs.
Verification of Project proposals and monitoring the execution of Community Physical
Infrastructures (USDA and WB Funded) that are provided to conserve the water use (Water
Management). The interventions include Drought Mitigation and Preparedness projects (Small
dams, Irrigation Channels, Drinking Water Supply Schemes, water ponds, Reservoirs and Flood
Protection Structures) and integrated water efficient projects (Drip Irrigation systems, Sprinklers,
Bubblers etc).
Verification of Project proposals of Small and Mini Hydro power projects (USDA and WB Funded)
ranging from 100 KW to 500 KW in northern areas of Khyber PukhtoonKhwa and Gilgit Baltistan
region, submitted by Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP)and Sarhad Rural Support
Program (SRSP) and monitoring their execution in field.
Pakistan Council for Science and Industrial Research (PCSIR) Laboratories Peshawar,
Pakistan
The Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) is a government-owned science and
industrialization research organization which mainly focuses on the development of industrial research.
Initially established as Pakistan Department of Research in 1951, it was reformulated in its current state
in 1953. Key Responsibilities included;
Ensuring good quality Construction work of the project Extension of existing power plant and
maintenance work in the laboratory and adjacent Colony.
Research work in materials science laboratory (Physical testing lab) on projects like Use of Light
weight Aggregate and Calcium Sulpho Aluminate cements, also on the Use of Industrial waste
material in concrete to reduce Greenhouse gases, cost, Energy and Environmental Problems.
Also performing the routine tests on the samples (cement, steel, aggregates, bitumen, bricks,
blocks, wood and certain plastics used in construction) brought to the laboratory for physical
testing.
National Engineering Services of Pakistan (NESPAK) ER division
The National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK), is a multinational and globally competitive
state-owned enterprise of Government of Pakistan. It is one of the largest and one of the apex engineering
consultant management organization in Asia and Africa and maintains a good international reputation. It
is funded by the government of Pakistan with the assistance of international funding agencies, including
the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the Asian Development Bank (ADB),
and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). Key Responsibilities included
Ensuring good quality construction (According to the Specifications given in Code) that of
government sector buildings in Abbottabad, including Police lines Abbottabad, Police station
Bakot, Bagnothar, Sherwan, and D.R.O Office Abbottabad.
Preparing B.O.Qs and Tender documents and calculating the work done on site, checking
Contractors Bills and Bar-Bending Schedules and handling all the issues from the contractors side
regarding execution of project.
Documentation and active Communication with all the parties involved in the project
The Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) is the largest NGO working to alleviate poverty in North West
Pakistan. It was established in 1989 with the aim of reducing poverty and ensuring sustainable means of
livelihood in what is now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Key Responsibilities included:
Survey, Design (Preparation of surveyed drawing in AUTO CAD), Implementation, identification
and supervision of community infrastructure projects (Sanitation, Drinking water supply Schemes,
irrigation projects) in District Kohat.
Keeping contact, correspondence with project committee during the execution of project and
insure active participation in community dialogues and human resource development trainings
Conduct damage assessment of Houses in Mir-Ali and Null area of Allai as per Earthquake
Reconstruction and Rehabilitation (ERRA) guidelines.
Involved in dissemination of approaches and techniques used for making buildings resilient
against floods and Earthquakes.
Computer Skills
MICROSOFT OFFICE, preparing bills, Progress reports and Estimation using MS-Excel Sheets, and
experienced in giving presentations in MS-Power Point, also experienced in making proposals and
drafts using MS-Word.
