Fact sheet: Hydrocarbons 2/4

Version: 09/01/2015 GMP+ International B.V.
General Summary

Name: Hydrocarbons

code: C24

Description: Hydrocarbons (C10-C40) do not normally occur in feedingstuffs but feed materials
can become contaminated with hydrocarbons from mineral fuels, waste oils or
transformer oils. Note: for Sunflower oil originating in or sent from the Ukraine a norm
applies based on the sum of C10-C56/C20-C56 minus C27+C29+C31.
Type: chemical

Severity: high

Control measures: - (Locked) closed storage

- Bark peeling (or entry check)
- Chemical treatment
- Closed production system
- Establish purchasing requirements
- Feed/Food grade lubricants
- Finished product analysis
- Maintenance of machines and safe fuels
- Monitor cultivation area (certified)
- Monitor fish catch area
- PEFC-certified wood
- Plot history
- Product analysis (in oil)
- Safe fuels for the heating process
- Use clean seawater
- Use food grade lubricants
- Use new packaging material
- Visual inspection
- Washing

The control measures specified in this fact sheet are all control measures which can be used depending on the
product and/or process step.

[1 ] Action limit: A feasible limit agreed in consultation with the sector, supplier or customer. If this limit is exceeded then an investigation into the cause should be undertaken and corrective measures should be
taken to remove or control that cause. Maximum levels in mg/kg (ppm) of the feed materials or compound feeds, derived to a moisture content of 12% unless mentioned differently.
Rejection limit: A feasible limit agreed in consultation with the sector, supplier or customer. If this limit is exceeded then the product is not suitable for use as feed material or animal feed. Maximum levels in mg/kg
(ppm) of the feed materials or compound feeds, derived to a moisture content of 12% unless mentioned differently.
