SG39-12 INTRODUCTION
1.0 INTRODUCTION
ProcessSuite 4-mation Configuration is used to configure control I/O and communications modules within an
APACS+ process automation system or QUADLOG safety PLC. It utilizes a graphical programming format
based on the international standard IEC 1131-3. This standard was developed by users and vendors to define
advanced control for continuous processes, batch applications, and discrete functions. This Guide lists the PC
platform requirements and provides the instructions needed to install, start, and uninstall 4-mation.
4-mation is released as an MS-Windows-based application. This includes Windows 3.x, Windows 95,
and Windows NT. As such, it runs on any IBM - compatible PC which meets certain minimum requirements.
This includes standard desktop, tower or laptop style personal computers. It also includes the APACS Rack-
Mounted Industrial Computer (RIC), a rack mountable computer that can be installed in a MODULPAC or
other 800 millimeter wide cabinet.
The following information contains guidelines for registering your software and for contacting Moore
Products Co. for software application support.
Before reading further, complete and mail the brief Software Registration Form included in the package.
Registration will:
C Enter your softwares part number/version number and serial number in the master database of active
software packages
C Identify the person, department or company where information about future software enhancements and
updates should be sent
Without proper registration, it may be impossible to provide application support and to inform you of
enhancements and updates.
Product support can be obtained from a Technical Information Center (TIC). Each regional TIC is a
customer service center that provides direct telephone support on technical issues related to the functionality,
application, and integration of all products supplied by Moore. Regional TIC contact information is provided
in Table 1-1. Your regional TIC is the first place you should call when seeking product support information.
When calling, it is helpful to have the following information ready:
C Caller ID number, or name and company name - When someone calls for support for the first time, a
personal caller number is assigned. Having the number available when calling for support will allow the
TIC representative taking the call to use the central customer database to quickly identify the callers
location and past support needs.
Customers that have a service agreement (ServiceSuite or Field Service Agreement) are granted access to the
secure area of our Web site (mooreproducts.com/techservices). This area contains a variety of product
support information. To log on, you will be prompted to enter your username and password.
TIC North America also offers a free faxback service called FaxRequest. You can dial-in to this service to
access documents such as press releases, product information sheets, and training schedules. The service is
completely automated and available 24 hours a day. To access this service, call the FaxRequest number
listed in Table 1-1. The first document you should request is the directory (document number 9999). This
document is constantly updated as new documents are added. Each document has a number code assigned to
it that you enter along with your fax number (area code entry is always required). Upon completing your
entry, the FaxRequest computer automatically calls your fax machine and sends the requested documents.

The minimum requirements for a personal computer capable of running 4-mation are:
The Rack-Mounted Industrial Computer (RIC) is an APACS component that meets the above requirements.
It is an industrially packaged IBM-compatible PC and a rack component that is mounted
in a MODULPAC or other 800 millimeter wide cabinet.
4-mation provides for both off-line and on-line configuration modes. Configurations can be created in the
off-line mode at any PC capable of executing the 4-mation software. Once created, these configurations can
be transferred to a control module within the APACS system via MODULBUS or MODULNET.
On-line configuration can only take place in a station connected to either MODULBUS or MODULNET.
Transfers can also be made in the reverse direction (from the APACS+ system to the configuration station) to
save either editing changes or newly created configurations. There are many ways to make connections to
MODULBUS or MODULNET for on-line capability. The following paragraphs describe common examples.
C Run 4-mation on a Rack-Mounted Industrial Computer (RIC) as shown in Figure 1-1. A RIC may be
mounted above or below a MODULRAC. The RIC has a MODULBUS Interface (MBI) Card installed to
connect directly to the MODULBUS (both the A and B side) via the backplane of the MODULRAC.
Note that standard PC peripherals such as a keyboard, monitor, and pointing device connect directly to
the RIC.
C Run 4-mation on a remote PC containing an Ethernet Card that connects to the APACS+ system via a
Rack-Mount Network Interface (RNI). The RNI has an Ethernet Card installed plus it also has a
MODULBUS Interface (MBI) Card to connect it directly to the MODULBUS (both the A and B side)
via the backplane of the MODULRAC. The remote PC and the RNI connect over a standard Ethernet (or
IEEE 802.3) network for on-line communication. An example is shown in Figure 1-3.
C Run 4-mation on an Industrial Computer Module (ICM) that resides in a MODULRAC as shown in
Figure 1-2. Note that standard PC peripherals such as a keyboard, monitor, and pointing device connect
directly to the ICM via the transition board located below it.
C Run 4-mation on a remote PC containing an Ethernet card that connects to the APACS+ system via a
Network Interface Module (NIM). The NIM utilizes an integrated Ethernet interface. The remote PC and
the NIM connect over a standard Ethernet (or IEEE 802.3 ) network for on-line communication. An
example is shown in Figure 1-4.
C Run 4-mation on a PC equipped with a MODULBUS Interface (MBI) Card that is used to connect
directly to the MODULBUS (both the A and B side) via the backplane of the MODULRAC as shown in
Figure 1-5.
C Run 4-mation on a PC equipped with a MODULNET Interface (MNI) Card that is used to connect
directly to the MODULNET (both the A and B side) where it extends communications to any
local/remote MODULRAC in a system. Refer to the example in Figure 1-6.

4-mation is an MS-Windows application. It is assumed that Windows is installed on your host computer and
that you are familiar with the Windows environment. The following subsections detail how to identify,
backup, install, start, and remove 4-mation software.
The 4-mation software is shipped on the ProcessSuite Control CD that is included in the APACS+ process
automation system. The ProcessSuite Control CD contains a single installation program from which you can
select each individual, licensed, software product you want to install. Because of the function-specific
software arrangement, you only have to install the APACS software products you need.
4-mation can run on a variety of MS-Windows-based operating platforms, including Windows 3.x, Windows
95, and Windows NT as listed here in Table 2-1.

A License Diskette is included with your software and is required for software installation. The diskette
identifies the unique serial number for a computer node and contains all the licensing information for that
node.
A Hardware Key is also included with your software package. It is required for operating 4-mation with an
on-line control module and must be connected to the computers parallel port before attempting to open an
on-line system. You do not need to connect the hardware key to run 4-mation with an off-line control module
or to install any of the software or the license file.
For new installations, 4-mation must be installed before any related software products. The installation
program has some built-in safeguards. For example, it checks to make sure 4-mation is present before it
allows the installation of other software products such as Advanced Control Module (ACM), Link Interface
Module (LIM), and QUADLOG software. Note that SCM software requires both 4-mation and ACM
software to be installed before it can be installed. Once the SCM software has been installed, the 4-mation
Compiler software can be installed. Function block libraries, such as the Motor and Valve Function Block
Library, should be installed last. Some libraries contain versions for both APACS+ and QUADLOG. Note
that only the versions corresponding to the installed control module software can be installed. This means if
both the APACS+ and QUADLOG versions of the control module software are installed, you have the option
of installing one, the other, or both versions of a function block library.

C Components you want to install
To install software from the ProcessSuite Control CD, use the following steps:
1. Insert the Software compact disc into the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
3. Select Run from the Windows menu and start the setup program located in the root directory of the CD (
\setup.exe).
4. Read the license agreement. If you accept the terms of the agreement, click Yes. Continue through the
Welcome window to bring up the window for selecting the destination directory.
5. Select the destination directory by either accepting the default directory or selecting the Browse button to
change the directory. Click Next to bring up the Select Installation Platform dialog box.
6. Select the platform you are using (PC, RIC,RNI, or ICM) and click Next to bring up the Component
Selection dialog box.
All items listed in the window of the Component Selection dialog box are pre-selected by default when
the box is opened. To deselect a component from this list, click on the check mark next to the item. To
deselect any sub-component of the items in the window, highlight the item and click the change button
to open the Sub-Components dialog box. Click the Continue button when you are finished.
8. Click the Change button to bring up the Sub Components dialog box. Select the version of 4-mation,
either 32 bit or 16 bit and Ethernet or MBUS, you want to install and click Continue.
9. Click Next to bring up the Review Selections dialog box. Verify your selections and click Next to initiate
installation.
To install 4-mation version 4.30 over a previous version, follow the steps used for a new installation with an
adjustment to your directory selection. If you have a previous version of 4-mation installed in the default
directory of that version, the setup program of 4-mation version 4.30 does not automatically install over it.
The newer version creates its own default directory, without acknowledging the current default directory.
To install over your previous version, select the Browse button in the Destination Directory to locate the
former default directory (typically C:\APACS). Select this as your new default and continue with the
installation.
The individual 4-mation 4.30 software products are backward compatible with 4-mation 3.xx software
(which contains integrated ACM and LIM software, etc.). When installing software products, the installation
program (SETUP.EXE) checks your computer to determine if a previous version is already installed. If one is
detected, you are given the option to overwrite it with the newer version. Since ACM and LIM software are
separately installable products, installing 4-mation 4.30 configuration software will not overwrite ACM or
LIM sections of the 3.xx software. These items must be upgraded as separate sub-components.
Note that 4-mation ACM 4.30 software is compatible with 4-mation 4.30 configuration software. For
compatibility of 4-mation 4.30 configuration software with earlier versions of 4-mation ACM software,
consult the compatibility table in the 4-mation rel.txt (release text) file.
When installing 4-mation 4.30, only those software products corresponding to installed software can be
viewed and configured. For example, if you install 4-mation and QUADLOG software, but elect not to
install the ACM software, only QUADLOG modules are available when adding modules to a system
configuration. This prevents listing modules in 4-mations module tree and its Hardware Modules dialog box
if they cannot be configured with the currently installed complement of software products.
Newer QUADLOG software (versions 3.2x or higher) can be installed with 4-mation 4.30. However,
QUADLOG function block libraries, up to and including version 3.03, must be updated for use with newer
QUADLOG software and are removed during the QUADLOG install process. New libraries should be
installed separately.
When installing 4-mation 4.30 configuration software over an existing 3.xx installation where QUADLOG
software has not been installed, all listings of QUADLOG modules are removed. This is to avoid listing
QUADLOG modules in 4-mations module tree and Hardware Modules dialog box if they cannot be
configured with the currently installed complement of software products. If QUADLOG has already been
installed, the module listings are retained.
If you plan to install a previous version of QUADLOG (up to and including versions 3.10) with 4-mation
4.30, you must install QUADLOG before installing 4-mation. (For later versions of QUADLOG, this is not
required). If these guidelines are not followed, the newly installed QUADLOG modules are not listed within
4-mation (they are represented as UNKNOWN modules). If a previous version of QUADLOG must be
used with an existing 4-mation 4.30 installation, you must remove (uninstall) 4-mation 4.30, install 4-mation
3.xx, install the QUADLOG 3.xx software, and then reinstall 4-mation 4.30.
LIM software, up to and including version 3.03, can be installed into either 4-mation 3.xx or 4.30 systems.
SCM 4.00 (or higher) software requires both 4-mation 4.30 configuration software and 4-mation ACM 4.00
software be installed before it can be installed. 4-mation Compiler software should be installed after the
SCM software has been installed.
The actual procedure needed for starting 4-mation depends on the specific version of MS-Windows running
on your computer. Select the appropriate version from the list below.
For detailed information on using 4-mation, refer to Using the ProcessSuite 4-mation Configuration
Software (document number CG39-20). It should be located in the same binder as this document.
Be sure that the Hardware Key is connected to the computers parallel printer port before running 4-mation
on-line.
Windows 3.x
Start 4-mation from Program Manager by double-clicking its icon or from File Manager by accessing the 4-
MATION directory and double clicking on its filename.
C For the MODULBUS (M-BUS) version of 4-mation, the filename is: 4-MATION.EXE
C For the Ethernet version of 4-mation, the filename is: 4-MATNET.EXE
Windows 95
TIP
You can add the 4-mation program to the top of the Windows 95 Start
Menu by dragging its icon onto the Start button.
Windows NT
The procedure for starting 4-mation software under Windows NT (also called Windows NT Workstation)
depends on which version of this operating system you are using. For Windows NT, versions up to and
including 3.5.1, use the procedure for Windows 3.x. For Windows NT version 4.0 and higher, use the
procedure for Windows 95.
When you run 4-mation, you may encounter the display of an icon from a companion diagnostic program that
runs in the background. This is the APACS Local Logger program. Local Logger automatically logs
communication activity intended for system optimization and diagnostics and runs minimized in the Windows
desktop. If you encounter this icon, simply ignore it as the program is designed to run without operator
assistance.
#
Each APACS software product can easily be removed from the computer system on which it is installed. Each
has a companion uninstall program identified by an Uninstall icon. This icon is located in the same Program
Group (or folder) as the corresponding 4-mation software.
To remove (uninstall) a 4-mation software product, simply run its companion uninstall program. Program
operation is automatic.
