SUMMARY OF CLINICAL ACTIVITIES

My clinical practice activities have expanded in the last 5 to 6 years. During my years as a
Registered Dental Assistant, I performed RDA duties: all aspects of chairside assisting including
coronal polishing, pit and fissure sealants, radiographs (traditional and digital), four-handed & six-
handed chairside assisting, fabrication of custom temporary, impressions and study model
fabrication, patient management, instrument processing, sterilization and administrative skills.
These RDA duties were performed in general dentistry, as well as, endodontic and implant dental
practices.
The main focus of my clinical activities has been my experience as a dental hygienist, as well as, a
Registered Dental Hygienist. During my school years, I completed 1200 hours of clinical practices
at Foothill College Dental Hygiene Program. I performed DH duties such as, applying dental
hygiene process of care, dental hygiene theory, and dental hygiene education throughout my
clinical practices and externship rotations. Currently, I have provided dental hygiene care not
limited to only general dentistry practices, but also in prosthodontics, cosmetic, and implant
dentistry. My experiences as a RDA and RDH has provide me an opportunity and preparation for
teaching in the dental field of both dental assisting and dental hygiene programs.

SUMMARY OF SERVICE ACTIVITIES

As a dental hygienist, I believe that volunteers have an enormous impact on the health and well-being of
communities worldwide. It is important to volunteer in order to improve health in the community we live in.
Throughout the program, I participated in various events both professionally and community related. I
provided not only oral hygiene education, but also I had the opportunity to interact with different age groups
such as children, adults, elderly, and special needs individuals. The most memorable community service that I
attended was having the opportunity to participate in working with special needs students. We educated the
students and their caregivers on plaque, gum disease, the proper method to brush etc. By the end of the
presentation, I learned that no matter how different we are, we should always treat everyone equally.

My passion for volunteering does not limit my ability to care for the health and well-being of the
communities, but my journey continues to promote personal growth and strengthen the individuals and
communities around me.

MENTORING NARRATIVE

During the dental hygiene program, I had an opportunity to become a mentor who provided guidance and
supports for one of the first year dental hygiene students. I provided peer tutoring to several first year
students on clinical procedures and hand-instrumentation techniques that offered them the foundation to
grow and develop proper dental hygiene clinical skills. I have the privileged to collaborate with fellow
clinic instructors to assist dental hygiene students in clinical practices. I demonstrated clinical procedures
(infection control set-up, extra/intra oral examination, caries risk assessments, etc.) to dental students in
order for them to fully understand the concept of these procedures. In order to prepare the incoming dental
hygiene students this year, I have been tutoring them on utilizing the 11/12 explorer hand-instrument on
the typodont.
