Objective
My objective is to find a job that can support and afford me with new skills and tools to build on my
knowledge and experiences in social science research, public health, labor and community organizing.
Experience
Southern Workers Organizing Committee (Fight for $15) 2014-2017
For the past three years I have served as the Lead Organizer in North Carolina for the Fight for $15
campaigns in both the Fast Food and Home Healthcare industries. In this capacity I have organized and
helped develop worker leaders. I have also organized numerous rallies, demonstrations, and other public
events and forums to support the campaigns. I have been responsible for coordinating legal assistance
for workers targeted by their employers in retaliation for their work with the campaign. I have supervised
several people in my role as Lead Organizer and have been invited by other campaigns to conduct
trainings with their staff. Our work on the Fight for $15 campaign in North Carolina and the Southeast has
been recognized as one of the most successful in terms of engaging workers and recruiting them to the
movement for better conditions and higher wages.
UNCG Public Health Department 2012-2014

As a research assistant at the UNCG Public Health Department, I participated in several community-
based research projects. I was predominately charged in analyzing data to assess the impact of various
initiatives implemented in rural counties to curve teenage pregnancy. The results of my research team
were used to seek funding for continuation of programs as well as specific policy changes aiming to
address key causes of unplanned pregnancies among underage women.
Fund for Democratic Communities 2012-2013

The Fund for Democratic Communities (F4DC) in a private foundation in Greensboro working on
economic justice and strengthening grassroots democratic practices across the Southeast. As an
apprentice, I worked with the community in Northeast Greensboro that was building a community-owned
grocery store in response to the long-standing food desert they had lived in since 1998. I helped organize
community meetings, document the project through media creation, and assisted F4DC staff in other
organizing capacities. The grocery store is now open (renaissancecoop.com) and is a model for other
low-resource communities of color across the country.
Sills Consulting, LLC 2010-2013

I worked along with several teams of researchers and interns in various projects related to immigrant and
refugee health as well as fair housing. Part of my various roles during this time included: conducting
reviews of existing literature, conducting individual interviews and focus groups, coordinating volunteers,
developed surveys and other instruments, conducted data analysis, co-wrote reports and presented
findings.
AmeriCorps ACCESS Program 2010-2011

As an AmeriCorps ACCESS staffer I worked as a case manager for immigrant and refugee communities.
Greensboro is home to a thriving immigrant and refugee population that I was fortunate to connect with
through this position. Some of my duties included interpretation, resource referral, assisting newly arrived
people navigate through systems, and helped coordinate workshops and other services for various
communities.
Centro La Comunidad 2011-2012

I served as a case manager and project manager, working on various tasks ranging from resource
referrals to advocacy to organizing and leading workshops around specific needs. I also helped develop
various projects such as a youth group which organized around immigrant rights issues and a community
garden.
Education
University of North Carolina at Greensboro 2012-2015
I hold a Bachelor of Arts from UNCG in Sociology (with a Global Social Problems concentration) and
International Global Studies (with a Global Affairs and Development concentration). I then completed a
Masters in Public Health Education at UNCG, focusing on immigrant and refugee health. My final thesis
explored mental health in unaccompanied refugee minors from Central America.
Other Education and Experiences

I have gained the bulk of my education and experience as an activist and organizer throughout my
participation in various local, statewide, national, and international movements and campaigns.
Early on I was involved in the anti-war movement, immigrants rights movement, anti-death penalty and
mass incarceration. I helped lead local efforts to support the campaign to save Troy Davis. I was one of
the co-founders of the NC Student Power Union, a network of campus chapters throughout North
Carolina organizing around budget cuts, racism, and accessibility. I helped lead a coalition of students
and community members to fight off the expansion of the University into the multiracial and working class
neighborhood. Inspired by the powerful energy of the Fight for $15 movement, I helped start the Central
Carolina Worker Justice Center, for which I have served as a co-chair over the past year and a half. Over
the past year, I helped coordinate anti-Trump demonstrations throughout North and South Carolina. Most
recently, I am part of the steering committee of Protect GSO, a loose coalition of various groups and
organizations coordinating efforts to keep our communities safe.
Skills
My skill set is largely connected my work as a community organizer and issue-focused campaigner. I have
a great deal of experiential training in the democratic organizing of grassroots social justice groups.
I am fluent in Spanish, my native language, and English. I am conversant in French.
I am proficient with Microsoft Office software, Google Docs and Adobe Creative Suite software, and very
familiar with communication through social networking channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and
YouTube. I am also competent with still and video photography and editing.
I am well versed in meeting facilitation using consensus and various voting methods for decision-making. I
have designed, led and, of course, participated in many examples. I am experienced in organizing public

events including rallies, marches, fundraisers, and other types of forums.
I have organized, edited and published materials related to social justice work in the form of magazines,
brochures, pamphlets, etc. in the context of state and national campaigns.
I have experience organizing responses to crisis situations including housing loss, violence, and personal
health care. I am versed in the basics of labor law and have spent considerable time coordinating legal
assistance for workers.
I have experience in organization and coalition building. Have played key roles developing various local
and state wide networks and have ease communicating with people in various parts of the political
spectrum.
