Proposal

Content Outline
My idea is based around the theme of summer, where a persons summer has not started to
the best start and will show them struggling to have fun. As the song progresses, it will show
the journey of the person and how they managed to have a good time in the summer. I am
going to use a non-linear narrative, which will link back to previous thoughts and opinions
that the person would have thought. I am also going to use point of view footage, which will
make the video seem more realistic , and will allow the audience to see the film from
multiple different perspectives, which will create meaning throughout. The story will have a
non-linear narrative, as it will have flashbacks of how the person used to live and how life
was like when she was with her boyfriend. The song will have a variety of different shots,
when the music is faster paced, which will represent the upbeat atmosphere of summer,
but also how the person is feeling at that time. The ending of the production, will be the girl
getting back with her boyfriend and feeling happier about how things have played out.
There is going to a variety of camera technique that are going to be used, which will allow
the audience to see the video from a more professional standard, and represent it at a
much higher quality throughout.

Initial Ideas
In the begging of planning my production I started with two different ideas and tried to
work out which would be most successful for my target audience. I created surveys and
asked peers on their opinions, so I could get a view from a different perspective. I decided to
do the music video idea, as my final major project after creating a survey to find out other
peoples opinions on my ideas. Almost all people questioned thought the music video idea
would be more successful, which was the main reason for choosing this idea, rather than
the short film idea. I also strongly believe my idea for my music video had more successful
aspects to it, this would allow it to work better than the other idea I originally thought of.
From the results many people questioned did not say there was anything I needed to
change for my music video, whereas from my short film, many people thought there might
be a few different improvements that I will need to include in my production to make it
more successful. From the survey responses it gave me the feedback I needed to
understand what I needed to, and which idea would work better and be more successful.
Many people questioned commented on the song, and said they like the song choice. This
shows that I will need to make my video as joyful as possible to ensure that the video is as
successful as possible.

Target Audience
The main target audience I intend to aim my music video at will be teenagers to adults, as I
believe that they would fit this genre more. The main genre in my music video is tropical
house, and studies have shown that teenagers from 14 18 are more likely to listen to this
genre than people are over 25. Therefore, from
these results I can try to aim my video at this
specific target audience, to make it as successful as
possible. A similar song to smile is Solo Dance,
which was released at a similar time, and was aimed at the same sort of target audience. I
am going to mainly aim my music video at the social-economic groups c and e, as I believe
they will be more likely to watch my music video. This is because the people in my music
video will be based around these social groups and will be around the same age as my
target audience. This will mean my target audience will find my video more individual for
them and reasonably relatable at the same time. I am aiming more at college students who
are listening to music on a daily basis, as they are more likely to talk about the music and
share the interest, which will allow my music video to become more successful. My video will
aim at this target audience, as the genre of music is mainly aimed at the same target audience, as
they tend to like it more, which means my product would interest them more, as it is the type of
music they listen to everyday. I am going to ensure my product is aimed at this target audience, as I
will have actors the same or similar age, which will allow the audience to relate to the characters
more and understand the storyline. I am also going to aim at this target audience, by having many
different things going on at once, and make the video very upbeat, which tends to be what this
target audience like.

Market Competitors
The main competitor to tropical house is mainly pop music, as this type of music is mainly
very similar. Pop music is one of the biggest genres in music and makes up most of the top
40 charts every week. It has grown over the years, with it now becoming one of the biggest
music genre platforms out there, and many pop artists are constantly hitting the number
one top spot. This success is a main reason that the music industry is so competitive, and
many artists require a lot of exposure for their songs to become
known and successful. In todays modern age YouTube is one of
the biggest streaming websites with billions of views a day,
which is why music videos are becoming a huge part in
promoting songs. Another main competitor I will have to
consider is the genre rock, as it is one of the biggest music genres in the world with over
29% of people listening to rock on a daily basis. Rock artists often get exposure on the radio
and at festivals and gigs, which allow people to hear their music and allow them to become
more successful. This
The market is very open for new music, as tropical house is becoming hugely popular in
recent years. This means there is definitely room for my music video to take a situated place
in the music industry, with the use of interesting content to make it more successful.
However, the music charts are very competitive which means that music videos are vital in
attempting to make videos hugely successful, and express an inner storyline throughout the
production. My production is going to be unique in comparison to previous production that
has been made. This is because I aim to have many different camera angles in my
production to entice the audience into what they are watching. This will allow multiple
different perspectives to unfold in the music video and allow the audience to understand
the storyline more. I also intend to use a wide range of camera techniques, to make it more
it look as professional as possible, and show the audience the best possible aspects.
