2. CHILDHOOD very many years ago, lived in Spain a great soldier who was called
Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, to who is known today like the Valiant Cid. Then, the different
kingdoms that composed Spain were always in war to increase their extension. There
were Christian kingdoms and Arab kingdoms, but over all of them it sent the King of
Castile and Leon, Fernando I. The father of the Cid, Diego Lanez, was a noble noble that
died in combat to the service of its gentleman. The Cid remained orphaned when as soon
as was seven years old. Then an uncle his arranged that he was educated in the court.
