How well do you know yourself?

Do all of these steps in ORDER in your GoogleDocs (save in Classroom). We

start on Monday, the complete assignment is due on Tuesday.

STEP 1 (Monday in class)

A. Open this file in Google Classroom

B. Answer the following questions in one paragraph thoroughly on this
form
prior to the skills test:

What is your personal capital? What are your strengths, skills, passion,
purpose? What evidence do you have that these things exist?

I believe my strengths pertain to the idea that I am constantly searching for

various perspectives to a situation or idea; I typically enjoy hearing a range
of responses and like to act upon these views. I am willing to understand and
evaluate a great deal of (often varying) outlooks, and I am passionate about
effectively showing my understanding of these differing angles. I also believe
I have great determination to accomplish my personal goals.

What is your intellectual capital? What is your expertise in one or two

subjects or skills? (These do not have to be exclusively academic subjects)
What evidence do you have that you are an expert in these fields?

While I may not have acquired expertise in particular fields, personally, I

believe that I am above average in terms of my organization and study
habits. Because I have had responsibilities within organizations, clubs, and
volunteer work (specifically in National Honors Society, National Charity
League, and Inland Valley Hospice) that require managing documents,
resources, and information, I believe I have acquired strength in
arrangement or management.

Where do you see yourself in September of next year?

In September of next year, I see myself as a freshman at a four-year

university (hopefully outside of Riverside), taking courses and studying to
achieve good grades; I dont imagine that I would know by then what I would
like to study, do (in terms of employment in the future), or become, but I
hope that I would have an open mind and be willing to take various courses
to make this decision. By this time, I hope to be more responsible in my use
of time and a more outgoing person, generally.

STEP 2 (Monday in class):

a. Go to the following site and take the strengths assessment:

http://richardstep.com/richardstep-strengths-weaknesses-aptitude-test/

STEP 3 (Tuesday in Class):

List your top 5 strengths with a brief summary of what each strength means:

1. Communication: While I wouldnt have thought communication

would prove to be my greatest strength after taking the test, it is
reasonable that this is a strong point; although I dislike communication
in terms of public speaking, I strongly enjoy writing as a form of
communication for my thoughts and ideas. I enjoy volunteering,
helping, and participating in events that seek to make a positive
difference, which are all aspects of communication.

2. Faith: I have always had a tremendous desire to find passion in

my work, despite not having found that specific passion at this point in
my life. I believe it is incredibly important to value and respect others
in everything you do, and I think each individual should constantly
uphold certain moral values in their actions.

3. Curiosity: Ever since a very young age, I have always had a

curious side to me; while I am particularly curious about certain things
that interest me, I tend to ask a great deal of questions to broaden my
understanding of everything around me, even if I am not very intrigued
by it. Although I may not always seek challenges, I frequently question
things I come across.

4. Visionary: In the past, I have not always been a visionary;

recently, however, I have become more interested in organizing events
and finding ways to raise awareness of important concerns. My
involvement in the community and at Poly has increased my desire to
envision future plans and share them with others. Additionally, I have
recently looked forward to taking new roles that require this type of
visualization.

5. Innovation: Alongside the visionary-related strength, innovation

is another category I may excel in. Because of my interest in writing
(particularly for Spotlight), innovation in this sense refers to my
continual creation of works; moreover, I fully enjoy the ability to create
writing that communicates information and ideas. I enjoy the power of
words and the concept that the selection of words can influence
readers perception of writings.

List your top weakness with a brief summary of that weakness:

1. Self-motivation: While I wouldn't have imagined self-motivation

to be my greatest weakness, it is reasonable for this to have been the
result, considering I do not have much confidence in my decisions and
often depend on others or look to others for guidance in my actions
and behavior. Although I believe I am self-motivated in academics, as I
complete my work and study for courses, I am very reliant on others to
direct me.

STEP 4 (Tuesday in class):

In narrative form, thoroughly describe what you discovered about yourself

from this strength assessment. Did you know your strengths and weakness
or did you discover something new? What was it and how are you going to
apply it? This portion is due in a separate document to turnitin.com by
Wednesday, February 15th.
