Summary of Unit:

SOL 8.7 The student will


a) Investigate and solve practical problems involving volume and surface
area of prisms, cylinders, cones, and pyramids and;
b) Describe how changing one measured attribute of the figure affects the
volume and surface area

Objectives:
Compare and contrast the volume and surface area of a prism with given set of
attributes with the volume of a prism where one of the attributes has been increased by
a factor of 2, 3, 5, or 10
Describe the 2-D figures that result from slicing 3D figures parallel to the base (e.
g. as in plane sections of right rectangular prisms and right rectangular pyramids)

Materials:
Worksheets, quiz, test, 3D models, nets that fold into figures

Monday, Feb. 20- Surface Area of rectangular/triangular prisms, cylinders, cones, and
pyramids (Powerpoint and homework)
Tuesday, Feb. 21- Review for quiz (group work/games), exit ticket
Wednesday, Feb. 22- Quiz on SA and Volume, word problems
Thursday, Feb. 23- Attributes/cross sections (fill in chart and go over notes worksheet)
Friday, Feb. 24- Review for test and make cubes using nets
Monday, Feb. 27- Unit Test on SA and Volume and Pre-test for 8.9
